i got the drift earlier
in my opion
it would have been nice though if you guys kept the org setting where people could change their resolution if required that way everyone would have been happy not just the 50%+

There's no need for any resolution changes... where's that coming from anyway?

to view this site outside 1024x you get the gray area hence the change in resolution

-pft-
easy fix...
Take your mouse, click and hold on the lower-right corner of your browser window, and drag to make your window narrower.

Really... larger screens are not for larger windows... but for more windows.

I apologize for this being slightly off topic, but I was wondering if issue had a solution?

I used to use both custom titles, lately I've adjusted it and only use one. Is it possible to move my status up to clear out the blank spot? Or is it something we deal with after editing our custom titles?

If it can be adjusted, great. If not, thanks for trying.

Sharp eyes Imp. I was just editing my forums as well and noticed it. I was going to mention it, but it appears you have beat me to the punch.

I've attempted this on both settings, and I believe that it exists on both the Light & Dark setting.

How come there is no thing at the bottom of the screen to show you who is in chat?

Yeah, it's as easy as going into chat to see if anyones in there, but why was it taken away in the first place?

Chat is now an Ajax application with no core database... no database, no way to query who's chatting.

Problem With Dropping Connection

This problem occurs at least 3 times per day for me:

Doing nothing special, in fact no pattern I can discern, then connection to ATS is lost.

Internet Explorer cannot open site (or similar)

I wait a few minutes and then re-connect, and it's OK for another while.

This same problem was mentioned several months ago,it was suggested that traceroutes be done and screen captures sent in.

I visit dozens of sites throughout the day and this does not happen with any other site, so I don't know how the problem could be on this end.

Just wanted to point out -

The font in the - Google custom search/ Search ATS field - (page top)
is Light Grey on White.

Kinda hard to read.
(I'm using Dark setting.)

And a final , Awesome Job with Dark Matter

I'm sorry, but I have to be direct. This whole "dark matter" thing is a colossal boondoggle. Someone got sold a bill of goods here. Someone swallowed the "fact" that other sites (which ones?) were oh so cool because they were dark matter, and ATS has to keep up with the Joneses, or else be left behind. Behind what? I doubt this new "dark matter" thing attracts any serious posters. Acolytes, maybe. Maybe that is what ATS needs to survive.

But when you have to go to one setting to "find posts" and back to the other setting to be able to comfortably read the post, you lose.

And I think it was Simon who said that there is no quality loss to read light grey text on black background as opposed to black text on white background. Sorry, Simon, but you're wrong. It's a pain to have a dark background. Why do you think newspapers don't do it? Whoever told you otherwise must have caught you in a moment of weakness.

ATS is a leader, not a follower. Let the goobers have their dark dark sites. We don't need that artificial enticement here.

I hate the new "Dark Matter" look. It sux, and creates more problems than it solves.

Actually...Dark Matter was designed and concieved "in house" so in essence, you are insulting the Owners and SkepticOverlord in particular.

But when you have to go to one setting to "find posts" and back to the other setting to be able to comfortably read the post, you lose.

I have no idea what this is about. If it's a bug we can fix it if you'd care to explain.

Newspapers don't do it because of the larger ink requirements, not because it's "a pain." There have also been studies made that gauge the stress put on the eye from a light background and a dark one. A dark background with light text actually lets the eye relax more.

Yes, which is why we led the way with a completely custom board, custom look, and more features for it's members then any other site. Once again...you just insulted most of the people who plan for changes and growth at ATS.

I hate the new "Dark Matter" look. It sux, and creates more problems than it solves.

You're welcome to go elsewhere. I also suggest you read "How to Win Friends and Influence People." It's a good book.

My intent was never to insult. Don't color the thread accordingly.

I remember specifically references to other sites that use the "dark matter" theme when this idea was presented to the ATS community. I believe it was SO that said it; I could be wrong, but I know it was at least an admin level person.

But when you have to go to one setting to "find posts" and back to the other setting to be able to comfortably read the post, you lose.

It can't be fixed. It's not a bug. It's an integral part of "dark matter".

To discuss, you need to acknowledge that reading light print against dark background is a poor choice. Esp. when the light print (text) is not even white, but only grey.

This is a severe strain on the eyes. No exaggeration.

So I have the option to customize my settings to light or dark.

I prefer to read dark text on light background. I adjust my customizations accordingly.

Now I want to "Find Posts" for myself or another member.

It displays as dark-on-dark, unreadable text. I must go up and switch preferences from dark to light (or vice-vera; who knows how that really works?) to be able to see the results. Do-able? Yes. Easy, or user-friendly? Absolutely not.

Sorry, but I don't believe that for a second.

Please stop with the "insult" darts. If we cannot express our opinions here without being chastised, then ATS is not what I thought it was.

The features, I love. The look, I hate.

Why? Why was it necessary to have a "custom" look? Accepting that it was necessary, or desirable, it was a very poor choice, imo.

I hate the new "Dark Matter" look. It sux, and creates more problems than it solves.

And I suggest that you learn to accept constructive criticism.
