I would say it depends on what you're going to be doing with them (I know chopping and shoveling). If your going to bug out somewhere on foot or are backpacking, go for the folder. If this is going to stay in the car go for the sturdiest you can get.

I would go with solid impliments.the folding ones have a tendency to bend and break,better to be little cramped for space then do without,I have small ones I can carry if I put on safari rack
