Panavian Tornado beats the F-16, F-18 and Mirage. B-52 on full load shakes your body nicely.

Sexiest sounds award goes to P-51 Mustang, amazing roar...

What F-16 and Mirage did you hear?

A SR-71 that flew over my house in Estes Park on its way to be decommissioned. The sonic boom shook my windows and scared the tar out of me.

Sorry, i don't know the engines...

One of the loudest noises i've ever heard was a F16 flight going low over our OPC during the Exersize Battle Griffin '05, Sound was echoing between the mountains for a long time (we were in a very deep and narrow valley and they flow below the mountain tops) Don't know whos AC they were since there were troops from 14 countries

the only one i havent heard out of all of those listed here is the xb70.....and i still have to say that the concorde's noise beat them all. there is a reason it was banned from most US cities.

Personally? An SR-71 taking off.

Followed by an Avro Vulcan doing a low level pass at fairly high speed, which broke all the hangar windows.

After that, an Su-27 cranking up for a full afterburner take off.

I can imagine, however that the Valkeryie would have been very loud, and I also imagine a MiG 25 doing a full afterburner takeoff would be something to hear

All of the above make a B1, or a B-52 seem quiet in comparison

727 about 200 feet above me circling and accelerating from a missed approach. Scared me like you wouldn't believe; I thought it was crashing.

Loudest that I've heard?

Squadron of F-18s doing a low-level, full afterburner run over Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee. 8 Afterburning engines+ 43 stock car engines= a whole lot of sound waves.

Fastest aircraft I can think of:
Probably the SR-71. It's made for speed. At 80,000 you don't care about sound.

Fastest aircraft to come:
Whatever the first aircraft with a Pulse Detonation Engine is. This isn't even a guess- these suckers are going to be loud.

CF-101 voodoo those suckers where freakin loud. had two of the pass overhead when I was out in Cold Lake Alberta. Vulcan was louder from what I hear but the Voodoo still thundered.
The CF-188 sounds much more like a whine then a rumble. Its not bad but still like the older planes..... the 22 i heard though this summer was pretty cool.

Neformore : Have you ever heard a B-1 lancer a MIG-25 is silenced to the sound of it's engines

The F-111-F had scream that would hurt you on takeoff in with full Afterburner. As far as non ab aircraft, both the C-5B and Ant 225 flying overhead at about 100 ft off the ground will shake the earth and wake the dead and they take forever to pass out of range. I was stationed on Medina Base Annex under the flightpath where after the C5 were overhauled on Kelly AFB in the '80's, they put them through their paces. At night it looks like the mothership from Close Encounters at low altitude. You could literally feel the wake turbulence from as high as 100 ft off the ground. The Ant-225 is just as bad. Don't you just love military jets.

I have heard both the B-1 and Vulcan doing some powerful displays at airshows. And I have to be honest and say the Vulcan takes the prize... The B-1 is powerful to be sure and makes your stomach rumble when it turns away from you and opens up, but the Vulcan is like something unreal. The sound bores right through you and sets every single car alarm off for about a mile radius. Its incredible how much noise is generated from a single plane. Thats why I cant wait until next summer as we finally get to see it running again

Have to agree, the ground shaking, chest vibrating, stomach churning roar of the Vulcan is like nothing else. The only time I heard anything louder was when FOUR Vulcans performed a scramble at the 1977 Finningley show. Utterly unvelievable!

The vulcan might have a higher exit velocity then what the B-1 but not the TU-160 because it has just a hell of alot of more thrust

Oh yes, I've heard a B-1, several times. And while its loud the Vulcan and SR-71 made it sound like a whisper.

When they used to have the Vulcan displaying at Woodford in Cheshire, they used to give a warning out 20 mins before its takeoff so people could go turn their car alarms off and get small children away from the flightline. Insane noise

The SR-71 I saw taking off from Mildenhall was a different case altogether. It made my bones vibrate and actually made me feel slightly sick. Awesome

On the subject of insanity, I have looked directly into the eyes of a pilot of a GR1 Tornado flying at low level coming up a valley in Wales as I came over the crest of a ridge and have also stood less than 25ft beneath a Tornado on takeoff at the end of a runway on RAF Valley. That little stunt got me escorted off the base by the RAF police

Remember that the thrust alone does not mean nothing. An-225 has 6 x 229,5 kN engines what is some 309 280 lb of thrust. But the F-15C is compared to it clearly louder.

You ripped another board member to shreds because he made a mistake, and then you said you're sick and tired of "know it all's" and here you are claiming more thrust = more sound. You sound real dumb.

Go read up on sound.
