WTF?

Yes, Bob Lazaar owns 'United Nuclear'! Okay this is BAZAAR.

"A number of stories have been circulating about United Nuclear, a company in Albuquerque, N.M., which sells Polonium-210, the radioactive material that was used to poison ex-Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko — “for just $69, plus postage and packing” The Australian warned today.

The missing detail is that it’s perfectly harmless and legal.

At least the Register in Britain — which hollered in a cheeky piece yesterday, “Deadly polonium-210 only $69!” — noted, at the very end, almost parenthetically, that “yes, we know the amount in the United Nuclear sample probably wouldn’t kill anyone.”

He notes, for instance, that the Polonium-210 sold by United Nuclear is encased in inert disks that would have to be cracked open to even get at it — and even then the amount is so small, it’s negligible. He also pointed out that the material has been used over the years in a variety of everyday objects — from static-neutralizing brushes to spark plugs."

Polonium-210 serves a lot of purposes in biological research. I personally have used to to create radiolabled markers for reporter genes and nucleotide markers. Of course it's available, just like the neurotoxin polyacrylamide. Highly deadly, but highly useful.
