Yet another great development in robotics from the
Land of the Rising Sun.

RIDC-01 is an autonomous robotic maid that can find its way
around your house, cleaning and dusting as it goes.

RIDC-01 has a built-in vacuum cleaner that lets it clean as it
goes.
It can clean your home in a completely autonomous manner,
using path-finding algorithms to find its way around and com-
pletely clean your home.
It also has dusting mitts on its hands for those hard-to-reach
spaces.

Voice recognition and speech synthesis are built-in and it
can understand a wide variety of commands - as long as
you speak Japanese.
Want the news? RIDC-01 can pull it off your wireless network.
Entertainment? It has a DVD player in its head.

A very cool robot in my opinion.

As soon as they come on market, drop down to a more reasonbable
price and start being offered with english language programming,
I'll deifnately be purchasing one.

Comments, Opinions?

I deffenatly need one of those arround my house dang does it do laundry wash the dishes and cook? When it does all of that I will stop looking for a wife LOL. just kidding I know women nowadays dont cook.

That is a pretty cool looking machine, Japan is realy turning out some interesting robots these days.

Hopefully they never get too smart tho.

Wah, talk about bulky.

I'm sure it's navigational algorithms are great, but the sheer girth of it's base would mean your home had better be organized enough for it to get around it.

I'm sure future versions of this robot will be scaled down.

I think it's hilarious that they added an audio system to it. So you can listen to music, and follow it around watching it do it's chores, taking up the same amount of time you would have if you were doing the chores yourself.

Remember the maid from the Jetsons... remind you of anything?

I did'nt want to mention that, you know, so as not to offend the
robot, I mean it may be pregnant.

Seriously though, that's a good point, and you're right about that,
I figure the creators think that people who have this will be gone
most of the time, and thusly have a sparse organized house, that
really just needs to be kept up.

I was actually toying with a thread title that mentioned Rosie,
could'nt think of a good one though.

As for the girth: only rich people could afford this at the moment and I think their houses are more large and grand than the average house so it could get around those with ease.

A cool showcase of future robotic maids. Did anyone else read a short story about people in the future becoming rotund blobs that lose almost all their limbs, please can I have a link to it (in the story the person is released tp the surface of the earth and they choke on the clean air). What I'm getting at is if these were widespread people would shut down and become so lazy our whole evolution would change.

In a sense these technological breakthroughs scare me in the same way machines probably scared manual labourers at the beginning of the industrial revoloution.

I remember reading a part of that story to, don't have a link though,
so I'm with you, anyone who has a link to it, or knows what it's
called, please inform us.

I don't think that kind of thing would happen though, people would
probably be more inclined to go outside, and get exercise, and be
more healthy.

You mean like how people are inclined to eat healthy with all the easy access fast food chains aroung? (Sarcasm)

No, I'm pretty sure human nature will kick in and people will take the easy way out.

The poor however, wont have that problem.

Well I just think that since I know there are alot of people who
don't exercise simplybecause they don't have the time to.

That thing is big and ugly. But I got to hand it to the Japanese, they are going forward with this robotics thing and they will beat us on this. I can see them soon making robotic soldiers to sell.

That thing is Huge.

I'd have to sell one of my kids, to make room for it.

Can't they at least make it look like the lifelike robot girl, that was showcased, earlier this year.

Can't find the link, Lori.

Just kidding ya, Iori.

I'm sure it was your thread, maybe you still have the link?

I believe you are refering to the ultra fantastic Actroid2 Fembot, I see one
problem with making the cleaning robot look like that though, the only
cleaning that would end up getting done is of actroids pipes.

Yea, that's her.

Fembot. Ha, ha. I'd forgotten her name.

Could they be Austin Powers, fans?

You may be right.

But seriously , wonder why they made the 'Maid', so bulky, considering it's function.

Maybe to cover what looks like some fairly large wheels?

I mean , a vaccum, cd player , some electronics, and motor. Seems like something with those functions could and should, be made smaller.

Of course , I'm no engineer.
