Kwanza is fake. Also, the Jewish holiday is usually prior to Christmas and has it's own deocrations. Solstice?

Let me put it this way:

Kwanza is as fake and meaningless to you as Christmas is to me.
In my opinion, they are all human creations and as fake as the next. But if it brings out good will and a positive human spirit, I am all for them.

That said, I respect your right to celebrate it. Just as I respect the rights of all people to celebrate what they wish, as they wish.

Ultimately, I think it all comes down to personal choice, with none better than the other. None is or should be universal, none is better or worse than the other (save commercialism), and as a result, I think it is quite suiting that Best Buy use "Happy Holidays" as opposed to Merry Christmas in their advertising.

It may make sense for them to say "Merry Christmas" on Christmas, but they're closed on Christmas

True.

Most places in my city are open on Christmas, actually. Mostly because we have such a huge non-Christian population (at least 42% of our population follows no religion, or is Sikh, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, etc.)

This thread is hilarious! Especially when one poster said:

Look, Christians, ... you don't OWN Christmas.

I feel bad for her but that's gotta rank up there with the best foot in mouth statements of the year!

It's one of those ones where after it's too far gone you suddenly realize, did I say that?
I should know as I've done it my share of times.

You have all made my day!

quite frankly, although anyone can make a controversial decision, no one is obliged to shop there. the business makes a decision in its best interest -- financially.

Kwanza is fake, huh?

Completely and absolutely FAKE.

African American heritage is fake?

Kwanza has nothing to do with African Heritage. It was made up in the 1960's by a convicted felon in California. It celebrates things that aren't even in an African harvest and it is at the wrong time of year for an African harvest. Not only that .. but there is a whole lotta' politics and Swahili language issues that totally kill the alleged 'African-ness' of it.

Wow, maybe you need to study up a bit on who Christ was and what he stood for.

Wow, maybe you need to study up a bit on Kwanza and what it really is.

TWAS the night before Kwanza (no, I didn't write this, it's been around a while)

'Twas the night before Kwanzaa
And all through the 'hood,
Maulana Karenga was up to no good.

He'd tortured a woman and spent time in jail.
He needed a new scam that just wouldn't fail.
("So what if I stuck some chick's toe in a vice?
Nobody said revolution was nice!")

The Sixties were over. Now what would he do?
Why, he went back to school -- so that's "Dr." to you!
He once ordered shootouts at UCLA
Now he teaches Black Studies just miles away.

Then to top it all off, the good Doctor's new plan
Was to get rid of Christmas and piss off The Man.

Karenga invented a fake holiday.
He called the thing Kwanza. "Hey, what's that you say?

"You don't get what's 'black' about Maoist baloney?
You say that my festival's totally phony?

"Who cares if corn isn't an African crop?
Who cares if our harvest's a month or two off?
Who cares if Swahili's not our mother tongue?
A lie for The Cause never hurt anyone!

"Umoja! Ujima! Kujichagulia, too!
Collectivist crap never sounded so cool!
Those guilty white liberals -- easy to fool.
Your kids will now celebrate Kwanzaa in school!"

And we heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight:
"Happy Kwanzaa to all, except if you're white!"

Give it a while. CHRISTmas is being taken over by the secularists and the entire meaning of the holiday season is being rooted out of America. I'm sure within a few years the stores will be open all day on Christmas just as they are now open all day on Thanksgiving in many, many places.

Kwanzaa was created by people who felt that the observed holiday didn't reflect their personal belief.

Christmas was created by people who felt that the observed holiday didn't reflect their personal belief.

If Kwanzaa is fake, so is Christmas

Kwanzaa was created by a marxist murderer in California in the 1960s. He created it to drag black Christians away from Christ. Now they no longer celebrate Christ who came from heaven to die for their sins. They don't even really celebrate something African.

www.textbookleague.org...

FAKE! FAKE I tell ya!

Now as far as Christmas being fake ... it's only got a 1 in 365 chance of actually being on the correct day so the day it's celebrated on most likely isn't the actual day. Secular humanists who claim to be celebrating Christmas but who don't believe in Christ are really celebrating a faux consumer driven spending frenzy and they claim to be celebrating Christmas to make themselves feel good. Those people are fake. Christ is real.

Hannukah and Ramadan are real but they are not the reason for the season. It's CHRISTmas baby! MERRY CHRISTMAS.

And Christians aren't celebrating something Christian.

FF, your last post didn't even attempt to address the issue presented by me.

Regardless of the exact originator of the holiday, Both religions were created with the same intent. So if one is fake, they both are.

Are you saying that Jews and Muslims have NO reason for their season? It sure sounds like it.

Celebrating the birth of the Son of God who came down from Heaven to save them is defineatly celebrating something CHRISTIAN. The secularization and mass consumerism that has come to surround Christmas is not christian.

your last post didn't even attempt to address the issue presented by me.

What was that? I musta' missed it. Spell it out for me.

Both religions were created with the same intent.

Christianity was 'invented' by the followers of CHRIST to fullfill the commands of Christ and to bring His saving message to everyone around the world. It is to save souls.

Kwanza was invented by a murderer a few years back. It claims to celebrate Africa but in fact has very little to do with Africa. Its purpose isn't to save souls.

The intents are totally different.

FF,
Your posts are illogical, hypocritical, and rely on selfish, intollerant views.

Bad form

Christmas was created by Christians because they felt that celebrating the Earth on Dec 25 (solstice) was heretical. That, and to convert pagans to their religion. They knew Jesus wasn't born even close to the December.

Kwanzaa was created because the originator felt that celebrating the birth of a false deity was heretcal.

Same stuff.

Hannakah gift giving and celebrations are found out with the Christmas commercialism. It's definately not as commercialized, but it's there to a lesser degree.

Do Muslims even give gifts for Ramadan?

Still, the VAST majority of people are giving because of CHRISTmas. All the commercialism is Christmas driven.

Well... If they're not really celebrating Christmas, then why should they be forced to say Merry Christmas? If they're not really celebrating Christmas, it would seem you'd WANT them to say Happy Holiday or Season's Greetings.

To the Jewish and Muslims, they ARE the reason for the season.
They have other reason for celebrating the season than Christ's supposed birth... Very valid reasons. At least as valid as the Christians celebrating Christmas.

Are you claiming the whole season of Christmas for the Christians now? No one else is allowed to celebrate anything during the "season"? November and December now belong to the Christians?

Illogical? That's subjective but I'm going to say NOPE.
Selfish? Nope.
Intollerant? Perhaps. But I don't care. As far as I'm concerned it's all of you who are being intollerant of Christians having a big blow out holiday.

It may not be PC to say that Kwanza is fake. But that's the truth. It's fake. There is nothing much African about it. It's just that simple.

Nope. They'll just have to learn how to be TOLERANT of Christians celebrating a major holiday.
