Yeah... I think it's basically "good cop, bad cop". It's just that they needed the Bushies in because they were the only one nuts enough to start the programme off. Now the US is in Iraq, the Democrats will, I think, stay the course for the sake of the oil companies. I mean the deep desert bases are built, the gargantuan Embassy is there... realistically there is no way there will be significant withdrawals.

All the talk of withdrawing US troops to the bases is weird. I mean, what do you have troops stationed in a foreign country for, exactly? To frighten the locals and deter invasion, is my guess. I'm not sure that the US troops will be able to do much in their deep desert bases but they're there to protect oil production, you can bet.
