Safeway is recalling cantaloupes sold under the Llano and Nature's Partner brand names because of a salmonella danger, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has announced.

The recalled cantaloupes were imported from the United States and distributed to Safeway grocery stores in Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, the Yukon and Northwest Territories from Nov. 7 through Nov. 18.

Well I just tossed away two melons...thankfully we didn't eat any. Even the fresh cubed and packaged fruit salads containing cantaloupes might be tainted so they advise contacting the store to find out where the cubed fruit came from.

For more information, consumers may call the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342.

Very strange that these food contaminations are on the rise so sharply.

No further word as to how the salmonella is suspected of contaminating the melons...they are grown on vines that are typically close to the ground and it may be a soil contaminated by fertilizers...will update if more info comes in.

Sorry forgot source: cantaloupe recall

We sure are having a lot more food recalls than usual, and on very strange items.

Chocolate, cantalopes....what's next?

You know, I've been noticing, alot of the stuff being recalled
is healthy stuff, like Spinach, and now Cantaloupe.

If I was really conspiratol, I'd say it's the fast-food industries
trying to make everyone fat and addicted to their corporate
fat-molded-into food-shapes.
