Hi All,

Here is a link to the USGS info on the earthquake. It happened right off the Kuril Islands. USGS INFO I saw on the news (one of the 24hour shows) that they expect the waves to be six feet high. It was displayed on a breaking news banner, but they werent talking about it at the time.

I do hope they are wrong though, and I am a bit upset that I cant find more info on what is going on. I am still searching though.

Six foot high waves are nothing to worry about, we get them here all the time.

This is kind of different, the quake cause's a different force behind the wave, so it speeds up and that's what causes the damage,

this tsunami will get bigger and the next 20 Min's are more critical there will also be more than one wave,

There is a list of arival times at this link

wcatwc.arh.noaa.gov...

It says that just because they put the times on there, it doesnt mean a wave is imminant. But my understanding is that if there is a wave this is the list of times it will arive and where.

I hadn't seen this when I posted the link in the Quake watch thread, here is the BBC version:

news.bbc.co.uk...

it says 40cm high now, earlier estimate was of 2metres.

You can see it on the sismic charts, this one of Rainier:

www.pnsn.org...

Look near the bottom, in black. It seems a quite long earthquake. oops, that may be the wrong one. One of them must be though. How long does it take to get there?
