Democrats to Force Change in Iraq Policy

I think many people expected it, many people voted Democrats to acheive it. In so many ways i would like to see the withdrawl of Coalition forces for there own safety and to see complete control and sovereignty back to the Iraqis, but weve jumped in and been the match that lit the fire of which is now a sectarian bloodbath and some say nearly an all out civil war.




Decisions like this expose holes in the Democratic system, one Government can go into these situations and next minute a change of Guard can do just the opposite, this surely sours US reputation even further.

I hope its a steady withdrawl allowing Iraqs own forces a semi smooth takeover rather than some Vietnam style exit.

If this is done wrong the exit of Coalition forces could result in a more Angry and Radicilized Iraq than what we started with.

Well everybody agree that Iraq needs a change of policies because obviously the ones that has been in use are not working at all.

But I don't see a withdraw of our troops any time soon is not possible because while Rumsfeld and Bush has claim that patient and is needed an that only victory will be accepted, we all know that the military troops and police force been trained in Iraq with Iraqi people are still a problem.

Not because they can not take over, but rather because they are using the training freely given to go on their own revenge and personal agendas.

So is becoming a vicious circle.

I really don't see how things will be changed for the better.

all right people..start getting your quotes from before the election from the dems about getting out of iraq ready. it will be interesting to see just what happens and how the dems will suddenly change their minds on iraq...or at least thats what i think. i'm sure that any withdrawl or serious reduction in troops will come around the begining of 2008......................

a slow withdrawal is the only option that will keep everyone happy(ier).

Seriously, what makes any of you so positive that the Democrats in power now are going to be able to accomplish bringing the troops home?

All this is going to do is "spark" Al Qaeida" off. TV's full of threats and who knows, this may be the catalyst to set Bush off and attack Iran. All that's needed is an attack. of some kind. Real or perceived.

I dont see Bush & Cheney backing off their high horse anytime soon.

What I believe is that Bush can send and offense using his own military force and then make the domocrats support his actions.

Almost like Bush father did in kuwait.

Then the congress didn't have any other choice but support the troops.

Dg, the problem is that Bush has veto power, even went the Democrats has majority in both houses he can still do a lot of damage.

Unless his own party starts to hold his power down, because they are also trying to maintain their image and political standing for the run for president in 2008, Bush still can do a lot of damage.

I agree DG, the Democrats will only have limited power over the operations and number of troops. They can pull funding for the war, but that will make them look as if they did not support the troops, and the people will not allow that. Bush & Co. will have to change the strategy, but it is because the war has become so unpopular. I think they will bring some of the troops home just to appease the masses, but we will continue to have a long-term presence for some time.

A little known fact is they are going to build permanent military bases in Iraq. We have moved everything out of Saudi Arabia and moved to Iraq. It is a strategic military location and it has oil.

It is my opinion that the real reason for the war was to remove Saddam from power and to establish permanent bases. It didn’t have anything to do with WMD’s and was not for fighting terrorists in the WOT. It was about establishing a friendly source of oil for the future. This goal has been planned for some time and by bigger people than GW, so it is not going to change.

We are not going to pull all the troops out anytime soon.

Pelosi has committed her support to Israel and some claim she is Jewish. I see no real changes re: Iraq. They may demand a pull out but as suggested here it will be slow and that is not any different than what the Reps were talking about the past year.

It was a change of guard so that some starving socialists could get back comfy government jobs again.

If it forces Israel to back down on its aggression and ensures that some money is used in Iraq to make the Iraqi people better off then it will have been worth it.
