NICE, Fulcrum!

I'm still running an AMD 2100 and an older AMD 1.2ghz.

I won't even mention what I use here at work

You won't wanna hear about my computers then

They are more low spec than that!

If you really do want to know, search BTS for a topic called something like this (forgot the exact name) - "What do you prefer in a PC" - I post near if not the very end with my specs.

*worried people will laugh* Lol.

hahah, now, back before I had kids, wife, house, etc. (and all the expenses that come along with them) I always had the latest and greatest!

(I remember my P120, 64 MBs of ram, (2) 2GB drives, and a 4X CD-ROM! nothing could compete w/ me! The memory alone cost more than a complete system these days. I also had an AMD 75 with 24 MBs of ram. Both were connected to a Novell 3.11 server running on a 486/DX2 with 16 MB RAM. Network hubs were too expensive so I had coax. NICs back then were about $100. Then there was my pride and joy, my ISDN line. 128k up/down!!! For only $120 a month and $50 for an ISP (and I needed a $400 dollar modem)

memories...

Here is a link to that topic..

And your answer can be found at page 7..

And btw..

it isnt all that bad..

I actually envy you for that laptop..

People need computers for different purposes..

And my 'purposes' just need much raw HP..

But any PC that can run Redhat 9 or WinXP is good enough for me..

Another thing about this comp that i now have..

My friend with who i changed these parts installed SETI@Home to this..

Man that puts a stress on the machine.. CPU temp rises about 20 Celsius when that is on..

And yet another funny thing even though i changed the MB and CPU on this.. i didnt have to reinstall Windows..

It worked just fine with just minor tweaks..

Which is really odd!

You should have gotten a AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton and OCed that too a hell of a lot faster than that P4. You can OC the 2500+ to about 3200+ with Stock cooling.

To get a Barton, i would had to buy it..

This i got for *free*..

Besides..

I know about everything about AMDs and their OC..

I did have that XP 1700 OC@2044mhz.. (Some 600mhz.. and Vcore of 1,575..)

With basic cooler..

AMDs rock!

But this is something new..

Lol Yea... As long as I can do all my development work I don't mind, though it would be nice to build a new system, maybe some money will come along soon lol.

As for that MB and CPU change... Can you imagine that on Linux? Lol... Would probably cause chaos (Sorry, I hate putting Linux down, it's still great though!), I mean even changing a graphics card can be a nightmare if you don't know how to change the config files.
