This anonymous post is in response to ATS thread: US Army Reccruiters: "Iraq War Is Over"

Ok Recruiter in the house. I have taken a look at some of the post here and allot are bashing recruiters. Yes some recruiters lie, some stretch the truth. But most are just stuck on the damn recruiting detail for 3 years until they go back to the line and get back to what they joined for. None of the recruiters in my station lie to people about the war. We are all veterans of Iraq. If we caught someone telling someone something that wasn’t true we would take care of it.

We do not want the civilians that are scared of putting a heavy pack on there back and walking for 12 miles. I don’t want the soldiers that "joined for col money" I don’t want the soldier that has an opinion about where he or she will deploy to. As a soldier you trust your nation’s orders and make them proud. No opinion necessary. If I can tell an applicant that he will most likely go to Iraq, He will not have the typical 9-5 job and he just smiles and says bring it. Then I know that I am making a great soldier. He will join and not try to strong arm us for "what he deserves." He just wants to serve. I would take 1 of them vs 5 "I need col money applicants"

To get to my point, its not recruiters lie. Its some recruiters lie. People lie, human nature does not change with a uniform. To those that want to serve. Your experiences will be significant. What you gain from humbling yourself and becoming a team with some of the most admirable people you will ever meet is irreplaceable. For those who don’t want to serve, you will continue to build this nation and contribute. No matter what yall are my peeps, I have sworn to protect and serve you and the interest of this nation. I take pride in that. I take pride in my people.

To the recruiters that do lie, You are working against everything that we stand for. Most will find that being honest will get you so much farther then hiding anything. That and we get a better quality soldier. Mentor, Train, and Sustain. Ok have to get back to work now, God bless yall do your research. " etc.

H. J. Res. 114

(a) AUTHORIZATION.—The President is authorized to use the
Armed Forces of the United States as he determines to be necessary
and appropriate in order to—
(1) defend the national security of the United States against
the continuing threat posed by Iraq; and
(2) enforce all relevant United Nations Security Council
resolutions regarding Iraq.
(b) PRESIDENTIAL DETERMINATION.—In connection with the
exercise of the authority granted in subsection (a) to use force
the President shall, prior to such exercise or as soon thereafter
as may be feasible, but no later than 48 hours after exercising
such authority, make available to the Speaker of the House of
Representatives and the President pro tempore of the Senate his
determination that—
(1) reliance by the United States on further diplomatic
or other peaceful means alone either (A) will not adequately
protect the national security of the United States against the
continuing threat posed by Iraq or (B) is not likely to lead
to enforcement of all relevant United Nations Security Council
resolutions regarding Iraq; and
(2) acting pursuant to this joint resolution is consistent
with the United States and other countries continuing to take
the necessary actions against international terrorist and terrorist
organizations, including those nations, organizations, or
persons who planned, authorized, committed or aided the terrorist
attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001.
section 8(a)(1) of the War Powers Resolution, the Congress
declares that this section is intended to constitute specific statutory
authorization within the meaning of section 5(b) of the
War Powers Resolution.
this joint resolution supersedes any requirement of the War
Powers Resolution.

This is the actual signed House Resolution that authorized Bush to use Military Forces in Iraq... notice nowhere is it a "declared war". So the recruiter saying "the war is over" is a correct statement... for WWII.

Besides, lying to get someone to join is not actually a crime, although I would like to see it be such. Don't get me wrong... it's not right that they do lie to get recruits... but it's not illegal.
