OSLO, Nov 3 (Reuters) - Drainage of tropical peat bogs is a vast uncharted source of greenhouse gases that may be doing more to stoke global warming than fossil fuels, a conservation group and a Dutch research institute said on Friday.

"The figures are alarming... This issue has been overlooked," said Marcel Silvius, senior programme manager at Wetlands International, a non-profit group whose backers include 60 governments and 15 conservation groups.

Silvius told Reuters that a study with Dutch water research institute Delft Hydraulics estimated that "annual peatland emissions from South-East Asia far exceed fossil fuel contributions from major polluting countries."

Indonesia is the third largest Greenhouse Gas polluter. No one ever though Indonesia would be producing so much carbon dioxide, about 2 billion tons a year, which accounts for about ten percent of world Greenhouse gas emission from human activities. For comparison, number one, the US, produces 7.3 billion tons. Number two and four are respectively China and India.

We as Western countries should take charge of this problem.
Bust just continue spending our financial funds on little war games till we have no globe left to fight them on. Exhaust to the fullest!

I have some friends who are traveling around Indonesia at the moment.
They say that pollution from the forest fires is so bad at the moment that bits of charred bark and leaves are floating around in the town they are in.
They are over 200 miles from the nearest fires.
Everyone is coughing all the time and even the wildlife in the forests can be heard screaming when the smog gets bad.
This happens very often in Indonesia, and I bet this causes a large percentage of the overall pollution.
Bad news.
