If the mods want to penalize me points for a "oneliner".... fine. That's just the cost of doing business here at ATS sometimes.
If what you have to say can be said with a 1-liner, then that's not a problem, as long as what you say is on-topic and contributes to the discussion. It's the sniping off-topic stuff that this thread is about.
A line like 'This is BS' gets a warn and a line like 'This is BS because (reason)' does not. Does that clear it up?
Sometimes a one word answer is very elegant.
For instance in a long post where the person asks about how to 'fix' their exercise program, one word can say volumes:
"Coach"
(meaning investigate coaching, get a coach, get expert advice)
In a post about 'Self Defense' two words can encapsulate an elegant reply:
"Gun-Fu" &
"Run-Fu"
(meaning, trying to use pepper spray, or fight a big determined attacker is not a good idea. The experts say you really need to run or have a gun to protect yourself against a determined predator).
So, short elegant replies that are info-dense = good.
Clearly joking replies with one or two words that shares a pop-culture 'geek reference' = good. (Joss Whedon, Buffy, Angel; Aaron Sorkin, West Wing.)
But mocking, doofus, not well thought out replies = waste of time.
The mods will let the user explain, I take it. A careful, well-researched poster who gives detailed and referenced replies would have more latitude, I'd think than a constant 'one-liner', using sarcasm and put down.
