Though I haven't read the description you've read, the Flatwoods Monster was nothing like a Mothman. For one, the Flatwoods Monster was huge, whereas a Mothman is usually human size. Though they both sport red coloring on the face, the differences are just too great to mistake one for the other.

I am more than familiar with both stories and I must say there are similarities when you read some of the account descriptions.

I wouldn't disregard the idea so quickly.

In those pics it looks like something from lost in space or Orko from He-man! Wierd stuff. Looks more like something from space than a dragon?

I believe the OP is going on description more than pictures.
