I think the Dutch are talking about bringing in patriotic hookers who are on their side. You know, mobilize the home front to make sure soldiers know how to use their guns as well as their weapons.

I agree with you in part, but I think you need to keep following the continuum to see my side of the issue.

I didn't see it mentioned, and forgive me if it was, but would I be correct to assume that accomodations for the women serving would be made too? All I'm seeing in this thread is the overwhelming assumption that:

Men would be the beneficiaries of these prostitutes and therefore the prostitutes would be women.

Granted, men outnumber women in the military, but Women account for 8% of Dutch forces according to the NATO site. For those of you who think it's a good idea, do you think prostitutes of both sexes should be provided?

I said it before & I'll say it again, this is a complete travesty. Regardless of gender or preference, the purpose of the armed services is certainly not sexual intercourse. I am sure it could alleviate some mounting stress, but it is hardly justifiable.

The Dutch can do as they will, but personally, I think this is matter best left to the private sector. I can't really imagine how such an arrangement would work. It'd cause a lot more problems than it would cure in my judgement.

Actually it was a part of my training for serving the civil service (instead of mandatory militar service) in clinical center. I don't know why they didn't call one of the nurses to play the role the victim.

I remember a unit of dutch army medics camping outside our tac site one evening when I was on guard duty. I was rather shocked by them. Men with long hair and light beards, and smoking dope too like it was nothing. They were nice enough folks. We traded stuff, like MREs and our caps for their caps, and snacks, like nutella (never had the stuff before, its a hazelnut/chocolate paste the consistancy of peanut butter. VERY tasty).

So honestly, them adding prostitutes to serve the men while they are away does not surprise me in the least. if they can smoke dope, grow long hair, and have visible piericings, then a couple of combat hookers wouldnt surprise me.

However, i highly doubt it would make any signifigant difference. The Dutch army is pretty laid back and the Dutch are pretty mellow people, and they dont exactly have a reputation for going to foreign countries and forcibly ravishing their women.

However, for the US forces..............very bad idea. What they need to do to curb sexual violence amongst troops is harsher penalties, like field courts, where the case can be tried in the field, judgement can be passed there, and a death sentance can be given to those soldiers found guilty of acts of rape of unecessary violence against civilians.

They could always hand out hormonal supplements to the soldiers to lower their sex drive.

Prostitutes always come to the soldiers. Why you think Germany have state sponsered brothels today? Because prostitution was needed in the post-war stabilization to make the Marshal plan work smothly.

Same goes for Thailand, probably has the biggest sex turisme industry in the world to day. Why? Because as it was the backbone in the logistics of the Vietnam war, it was the big recreational bordello.

Up to this day USS Kitty Hawk, the biggest aircraft carrier in the world, sure as a clockwork once a year anchors up in the bay of Pattaya to let some 5000 mostly men on a week-long leave in the city.

That leads to all sorts of interesting dialogue though. When I was in boot one of the recruits asked our senior if it was true that there is salt peter in the food to keep him from getting a hardon.

The DI's response?
"You live with 100 men, why the hell would you want a hardon?"
He didn't confirm or deny the saltpeter though. I can tell you however that I only had one good dream the whole time I was in boot, and it happened the last night, which happens to follow visitors day, during which we had fast food instead of chow hall food.
On the other hand, rumor did circulate that firewatch had caught one of the recruits... erm... let's say, performing rigorous cleaning of those hard to reach areas, so maybe it was just the tension that kept my dreams clean.

Good idea might stop those soldiers inclined to rape from commiting atrocities and maybe chill them out.

Been done before. Ever heard of an incident called The Rape of Nanking?
Basically when Japan invaded China they took over a town called Nanking. For months, the soldiers who occupied the area did little other than rape and kill. This lasted several months until Japan decided to send in prostitutes to help 'calm' their own soldiers.

Ironically, the prostitutes were taken from OTHER Chinese towns and villages that had been occupied.
