Sorry if this has been posted before but I could not find anything on it. Supposedly a Munitions depot was destroyed and we lost 300 soldiers and much
of its armour and transport.
libertyforum.org
This site has a list of all of the soldiers who were killed in alphabetical order.
and
sfbay.craigslist.org...
Has anyone else heard about this? I remember hearing about a fire there a couple weeks ago but no one reported on any casualties.

I never heard that 300 soldiers died, or of a cover up, but here is a video made by a soldier of the
explosion
Edit: fixed mistake

Not 30, pstiffy. 300. I'm looking for further confirmation on this story. My husband mentioned it in the last few days and now I can't find the
sources he read...
Still looking...

There are no reports of civilian casualties around the area nor were there any American casualties from the ammo dump explosions. Too big to cover
something up like this.

Really, this is something that I think the government would try to cover-up. I personally don't believe the story however, the strategy and tactics
are being re-considered -- so who knows. It's extremely difficult to find any information regarding this. What is strange is the list of soldiers
names that accompanies the article.

Nothing is too big to cover up.
Actually I remember this explosion few weeks ago, it was breaking news on CNN, like the sky in Baghdad was illuminated as if in the airstrikes in
2003. It did not look good. But as usual - we were not there, so we have no clue whatsoever what happened.
Could be 300, 30, or 3 soldiers dead.
All we know is that we don't know.

Here's the official story, claiming no casualties:
BBC News
The fire, which set off a series of blasts and explosions at the base, caused no casualties or injuries.
No casualties OR injuries... Interesting. Was no one guarding this base?
Indymedia
Nine Huge American Transport Planes Unload Casualties From Devastating Strike
In a bulletin posted at 2am Makkah time before dawn Wednesday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported its correspondent as saying that the US military
hospital at the massive American-occupied air base in al-Habbaniyah had begun to receive dead and wounded personnel from the devastating Resistance
rocket assault on the US Falcon arsenal in the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah. Just before midnight Tuesday, the Iraqi Resistance fired barrages
of Katyusha and Grad rockets into the arsenal, the largest such facility in occupied Iraq, causing the ordnance to begin to explode. Western news
reports stated that the blasts continued for hours lighting up the nighttime sky over Baghdad.
300+ Casualties
The loud blasts could be heard across the Iraqi capital
...
Free Arab Voice
Wednesday, 11 October 2006.
· Nine huge transport planes ferry American casualties to al-Habbaniyah airbase from devastating Tuesday night Resistance strike on US Falcon
arsenal, indicating heavy American losses. US claims "no casualties," but Iraqi regime evacuates 90 injured puppet troops to ar-Ramadi hospital.
· Remains of US Falcon arsenal described as "burned out wasteland with no buildings." US helicopters continue to dump water on site Wednesday to
extinguish last flames. Puppet officials estimate US losses could exceed US$1 billion. Iraqi puppet army orders two regiments to move to southern
Baghdad to fill gap left by decimated American troops.
Edit: This Site claims to have a video of the attack.
Dozens of Casualties
“The (American) forces are sure that two of the Iraqi translators who were working for them leaked information and gave particulars to the
“insurgents” (Iraqi Resistance). They (the Americans) have suspicions regarding a third translator who left the base one day before the attack and
never joined up again.”
Quds Press noted that although the American authorities reported no casualties in the attack, the Iraqi source, who asked not to be identified, said
that “dozens” of American soldiers were killed in the explosions that rocked the arsenal for hours on Tuesday-Wednesday night. The source said
that the US military have in their custody the bodies of six Iraqi translators who were killed in the blasts, and the Americans were refusing to
release those remains to their families for reasons that remain unknown.

that first explosion looked like a nuke to me... the shockwave knocked the cameraman off his feet... I wonder how far they were away, I am guessing a
fair distance cause they stayed in the open. That first explosion was really big and I wouldn't have wanted to be close to where it was...
So they say no casualties? Well I say fracking liers...

Thank you for posting this as I just heard about it moments ago and couldn't find anything on the net about it. Disturbing to say the least. I can't
believe they have been able to keep it as quite as they have.

You realize that Mafkarat al-Islam is a propaganda machine for the insurgents? Look how they say puppet regime and so on. And its past history of
other reports on their lies. I remember they reported from insurgency sources that they killed a hundred American soldiers in one day some time ago.
Very unreliable.

And more...
KAVKAZ Center
The US military hospital at the air base al-Habbaniyah had begun to receive dead and wounded personnel from the devastating Mujahideen rocket assault
on the US Falcon arsenal in the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah. Just before midnight Tuesday, the Mujahideen fired barrages of Katyusha and Grad
rockets into the arsenal, the largest such facility in occupied Iraq, causing the ordnance to begin to explode. Western news reports stated that the
blasts continued for hours lighting up the nighttime sky over Baghdad, the Al Basrah reported.
Three huge US transport aircraft emblazoned with the red cross had flown into the base, and casualties were being unloaded and sent into the hospital
at the al-Habbaniyah base, located some 70km west of Baghdad.
...
the US had used 13 huge military transport trucks to haul completely charred American armored vehicles out of the remains of the American Falcon base.
The US forces hid the burnt wreckage of the vehicles behind the vegetable wholesale market known as the ‘Ulwat ar-Rashid Commercial Market.
Witnesses reported that about 15 minutes before sunset Wednesday, the procession of vehicles under US helicopter air cover and escorted by Humvees
took the wrecked vehicles, estimated to number at least 22 to the back wall of the ‘Ulwah. The Americans then set up a guard post to control access
to the wrecked vehicles.
deltaboy, I hear you, but I think this deserves further investigation.

Former Baathists members, former Saddam's Fedayeen fighters, Sunnis who are removed from power and so on.

Since they represent the Shiite population and not Sunnis, its understandable they called it the puppet regime.

Funny how you don't count in the Shia Militias, which also spread death, destruction, torture, perform kidnappigs, assassinations, mutilations and
other "Stuff" considered to be kind of on a list of a daily jobs that a "Terrorist" must do.
I guess they can do that now huh?
It is their time for REVENGE ey?

YOu guys are gettting a bit off track here, things are starting to get all nit picky and political and I hate it when threads get hijacked and filled

Remember people have come there to read about the topic, not about you guys debating about iraqi politics...

O yeah thanks for reminding me. Forgot to include the Shiites.

Since the Shiites were in power, they pretty much ain't so much giving resistance to American and British "occupation" pretty weird eh? And since
the Sunnis are fighting and killing since they are removed from power, the Shiites have shown much restrain in any response. But since the attacks on
Shiites had increased and its being continued daily, its bound to have some Shiites returning the favor. Think of it as the Black Panthers in America
versus the KKK and other white supremacists in response to attacks on African-Americans.

Judging by the photos after the explosion, the place looks pretty wiped out.

Pstiffy, that same video was ALSO posted {submitted to Google} on Jan. 15, 2006. I've been told (elsewhere) that it's an old vid of an Iraqi dump
filmed during the invasion.
Notice the two seperate url's, I took out your tags in the quote above.

Someone goofed putting this little scam together.
This Arab video of the night of the fire looks more like it. (From the Global Security link above):
