A few thoughts.

1) Somebody a few posts back mentioned MAC using C-5 and C-17 aircraft for the Antartic supply you have a source for that? The last time I checked, we were still using C-130s. My info could easily be out of date, and the idea of a C-5 on skis is too good to pass up! PLEASE find a photo of that.

2) As for the video footage, I have to side with the folks who think the 'UFO' in that frame is actually a UPO (Unidentified Photoshop Object). Not just because it looks so blatantly faked, but because unless I'm really missing something, the photographer who filmed that shot had to be on the starboard bridge wing of a destroyer or DE, and the UFO passed between his position and the forward stack. That's a *small* UFO, and it's practically flying past the end of the vidiographer's nose, but he isn't buffeted by the thing's wake, or startled by its proximity. That doesn't sit well with either physics or human nature.

3) I'm going to lose 'airplane geek' points for not being able to ID the plane we see taking off from the carrier deck...I blame encroaching senility and a 22 hour (and counting) day...but the striped tail looks more like a paint job from the mid-30s than from the late 40's. Anybody care to do some digging and see if any squadrons (particularly those based aboard the USS Philippinw Sea) reverted to that scheme postwar? I'll admit that I always like the colorful pre-war look, but I don't recall it making a comeback.

They are obvious shots from the Pacific campaign during WWII.

This is 100% true. I've seen some of the footage dozens of times over the years. Basically they are just splicing together from all over the place.

In regards to using footage from WW2 pacific theater being used.

Go to about 11:27 in your video. Watch the plane go down.

Now go to 01:04 in this video. (Love this one).

Same footage. That is a Japanese plane being shot down. I think there is more footage in this short vid that they used too. But until it is translated it's not worth my time looking for it. Who knows, maybe they are saying that the Japanese were hiding there with the Nazis as well and some of the footage we see on the history channel from the pacific from dubuya dubuya two are really from Admiral Byrd's expedition!

They fly C-17s down there because they only have a limited window to get planes in and out before it's too cold. The fewer trips they have to make to swap out personnel and equipment the better. The LC-130s fly to the bases, but the C-17s have a very small area they can land in. There was an LC-130 that got stuck under the ice for two years before they could recover it because it got caught in an early storm. Once the temperature starts going below a certain point the hydraulic fluid freezes and they planes can't fly.

I might as well put something here to follow this topic.

Its a little premature without hearing since my questions or interest may
be answered but if not lets hope more about what they think of UFOs
might come out this year.

What would be interesting is a follow up Russian film on what they
think about Tesla and the UFO?

“These Unidentified Flying Objects are not shaped like blurred clouds, lights, etc. They have a definite technological, mechanical shape.”

“It’s a clear fact that USA was always interested in the Nazi technological heritage.”

“And then something unexplained happens. An expedition that was to go on for 6 months suddenly ends in just 2 months, and the shores of Antarctica are deserted. That was an escape indeed.”

Real facts, unquestionable witness reports, sensational versions in THE THIRD REICH: OPERATION “UFO”.

Chapter 1: The Base:

There was another expedition to the shores of Antarctica led by the legendary US polar explorer Richard Byrd in the beginning of 1947. A very strange expedition. Unlike the previous three expeditions, this one was totally financed by the US Navy and was codenamed Operation: Highjump.

Dmitry Filipovyh (1st Rank Captian, Historian): “Byrd was in command of a powerful military squadron – an aircraft carrier, 12 ships, a submarine, more than 20 planes and helicopters, and over 5000 human resources. A very bizarre crew for a scientific expedition, wasn’t it?”

On the 2nd of December 1946, before the start of his expedition, Admiral Byrd said to the press: “My expedition has a military spirit.” No additional information was said.

Dmitry Filipovyh: “At the end of January 1947 a full scale aerial reconnaissance was launched, exploring the region of The Land of Queen Mod(?) in Antarctica.”

Everything goes as planned. The first week results in 10,000s of aerial photographic images. But then something strange happens – an expedition that was to go on for 6 months suddenly ends in just 2 months, and the shores of Antarctica are left. Everyone fled.

Dmitry Filipovyh: “The aircraft carrier was lost, almost half of the aviation resources, dozens of sailors and officers were lost too. The Members of Disasters and Critical Situations Committee of the US Congress(?) got the following report from Admiral Byrd: [In case of a new war, America could be attacked by an enemy capable of traversing the earth from one pole to the other at incredibly high speeds.]”

What made the US squadron flee? Half a year before Byrd’s expedition, in Summer 1945, the port of Mar-del-Plata, Argentina, was visited by two German submarines. Not ordinary submarines. Submarines from the so-called Fuhrer Squadron.

Dmitry Filipovyh: “This top-secret joint group was supposed to accomplish secret missions that remain unknown to this day.”

The crews of these submarines did not want to cooperate, but the Americans still managed to get some information. The captain of U-530 told them that he was on a mission codenamed Walkeria II(sp?).

Dmitry Filipovyh: “Three weeks before the War, submarine U-530 left the quay and headed for the shores of Antarctica. There were passengers whose faces were completely covered to avoid recognition, and Third Reich relics onboard.”

The commander of the other submarine (U-977), Heinz Schaffer(sp?), stated that his submarine later followed U-530, on the same course. It was also found out that German submarines frequently traveled to Antarctica. But why?

Antarctica. It was discovered in 1820 by two Russian explorers: Belentzgausen and Lazarev(Sp?). Since then, this mysterious continent, having a surface area larger than Europe’s, like a magnet, attracted explorers. But the cliff-like, 10-meter-high shores of this continent left it unreachable and impenetrable for many years. For almost a century, Antarctica remained unknown. There were only contour maps of Antarctica. And all of a sudden, this remote and useless piece of land is flooded with the unexplainable interest of Germany. Many economical resources were spent on research and expeditions to Antarctica.

Dmitry Filipovyh: “In the late 1930s two scientific expedition groups were organized. And this was before the War, which was about to start in a few days.”

Since January 1939, two airplanes: Passat and Barrey(sp?) were regularly catapulted to the Land of Queen Mod. In just three weeks, the Luftwaffe pilots marked a territory as large as Germany using metallic flagposts with Swastika flags on them. The territory was named New Schwabia(sp?). In April 1939, the experienced polar captain of the expedition, Major Alfred Ritscher(sp?) reports: [My mission, which was given to me by Marshall Gering, is accomplished. We were the first ones to fly over the continent. Our flagpoles were dropped down every 25km. We covered an area of approximately 600,000 squared kilometers. And 350,000 of these were photographed.]

Gering’s air-aces did their job perfectly. The mysterious task is then passed over to the “Fuhrer Sea Wolves” submarines, in command of Admiral Karl Donitz(sp?). Many German submarines were secretly sent to the shores of Antarctica, and after some time, Donitz says a strange phrase: [My submarines have found paradise on earth!]

Dmitry Filipovyh: “1943 was the peak of war between the Nazi and Russia. Admiral Donitz says another strange phrase: [The German Navy can be proud of its accomplishments, having succeeded in making an indestructible fortress for the Fuhrer at the other end of Earth.]”

Back then Donitz was understood by the few chosen ones. Today we can try to interpret his words. Recently, huge underground lakes were discovered a kilometer deep under the ice. The temperature of these lakes is about +18 degrees Celsius. The gaps between the ice and these lakes are filled with warm air. It’s not excluded that warm streams flow into the oceans from these warm lakes. For thousands of years these warm streams could have made thousands of tunnels in the thick ice and underground. These tunnels could later have been used to install secret bases and fortresses. A whole submarine can easily be hidden under the shores of Antarctica. And there’s your basic base. No storms, no polar colds, absolutely hidden from any enemy.

Tesla design the the Germans stole from Dort (built on a Tesla design) .

I mean that was before 1900 and might power subs for as long as nukes do today.

Not blurry clouds or lights, but a mechanicals craft.

You heard it UFO people, except he might later say movement by
electrical and aether means.

Is Russia out of the UFO loop, they seem to claim ignorance of UFOs
on a youtube video. But how much can they tell.

The carrier was the USS Philippine Sea, and oddly enough later in 1947 was seen operating in many different places. She hauled R4D transports to Antarctica and launched them using a JATO system, and after waiting for a few weeks, and doing experiments she sailed back north. She was decomissioned in 1958, and stricken from the rolls in 1969, being sold for scrap in 1971. There are even logs and journals from sailors that were on her in Antarctica. The most exciting events to happen were the JATO take-off (the first time ever attempted from a carrier), and the loss of a helicopter shortly after take-off.

Although it doesn't say the name of the carrier - the official carrier as Zaphod58 stated was the USS Phillipine Sea which scrapped in 1969. (

This major glaring error makes the whole documentary unfortunately suspect.

You have to look at the ways they supply the bases. They have AT BEST 6 months to resupply. An LC-130 is the only way to get to the individual bases. One C-17 = 4 LC-130 flights. There are also only limited areas they can land anything bigger than an LC-130. There are only 10 LC-130s in the entire USAF inventory, of which 2-3 are undergoing major maintenance and inspections at any given time.

So you have 3-4 LC-130s flying from Christchurch to Antarctica for 3-4 months out of the year. You take in ONE C-17 and you just eliminated four flights of an LC-130.

As I said in my other post, one of the LC-130s spent two years in Antarctica because it tried to fly in too late and got buried in a storm. And when they got it out it had MAJOR problems with most of the major systems. It took four tries to get it out of Hickam due to maintenance issues.

It just makes SENSE to take C-17s into Antarctica to help with resupply.

Oh and just for the record it hasn't been MAC in ages. It's AMC now.
