Crio-sleep/hypersleep is when a live organism falls into deep sleep and can remain like that for years without aging a day.

This is not a science fiction it's as real as it gets.

Many years ago my biology teacher told us a story how to different people fell into crio-sleep naturally. Our teacher was really good at what she was doing, i'd say she would fit perfectly well into Harvard Medical Faculty.
Anyway the first story:
There was a man who was pronounced dead, he did not have pulse, his body temperature fell. On the third day a funeral was organised and during the funeral he came back to live.

Second story was much more interesting.
A woman was thought to be dead after preliminary examination. Doctor couldn't feel her pulse or heart beat and everyone thought she was dead. Later some advanced diagnostic equipment was used and they did notice a really weak and slow pulse, no one could understand what happened and nothing could wake her up. First they thought she was in a coma but its unusual to have almost no pulse and very low body temperature.
What her relatives did they kept that woman in their house.
They kept her for 20 years. 20 years later one of her relatives died and that day she came back to live.

The most interesting thing she looked exactly same as 20 years ago.

Certain Microorganisms have been known to fossilise and then come back to life millions of years after they were first buried.

a less extreme example might be hybernation, hamsters for example fall naturally into a catatonic state when cold, their respetory and cardiovascular system slow to a poin near death.

given that aging is linked directly to the energy a body consumes, such states would improve the longevity of the body.

It's all very interesting, especially taking into account that brain cells start to die off after 5 minutes without oxygen.

Would be a major step in medicine if one could learn to induce it artificially.

In nature you CAN fall into a sort of deep sleep that will allow you to suck a few extra hours of life out in a situation where you should die after minutes (for instance in Sweden a skiier fell under the ice and was trapped in the freezing water for about an hour before they freed her and when the took her to the hospital she was brain dead, but they managed to revive her.)

However uh those stories seem a bit fanciful. You can SAY that cryo-freezing could work but until you test it you have not idea, and the soviets have tested it.

Many a time to be in fact and dismissed it as impossible...they could freeze you successfully but they couldn't revive you, there was too much tissue damage, and no process of thawing worked. Every time they tried it resulted in another test subject, and the US came to the same conclusion working with hamsters.

Thankfully too...last thing we need is people going to "sleep" for 100 years.

Sincerely,
