Clare Short has decided to see out the remainder of this Parliament as an independent MP and refuse the Labour whip.

It comes after she was reprimanded by the Labour party for calling for a hung Parliament at the next election.
Clare Short breaks Labour rules and reprimanded
(It can't have come as new to her cos you can't seriously expect to effectively call for the defeat of your own party in an election and not face a penalty for that.)

Clare (despite the attempts of some revisionists to say otherwise and her own innuendo) sat as a Cabinet Minister before, during and just after the main hostilities had ended in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Clare Short has said she will not contest the next general election.

Clare Short has resigned as a Labour MP and will sit as an independent for the remainder of this parliament.
The ex-Cabinet minister has already said she will quit as an MP at the next general election.

She has REALLY made a huge mess of this.

quitting as an MP is probably the best thing she could do, she lost a lot of respect for how she went about with Iraq (it resulted with the left of the party taking a dislike to her).

Overall, this is one MP i will not be shedding a tear for.
