This question seems rather obvious but merrits discussion. Illegal immigration is akin to slavery. Lou Dobbs on Bill Maher said it best, the reason they do the jobs no one else want to do is because no one is willing to work for slave wages.

There's several facets to this - one - aside from that it is not the "American Way of Life" (ideally) is slavery not a necessity to a society?

Before the Civil War - slavery existed legally in the south and existed through loop holes in the north through essentially "wage slaves".

In fact - it is arguable that wage slavery in the north was less burdensome on the employers and thus their economy was more robust and growing than the southern economy where slave owners were required by law to take care of their slaves to a certain standard.

No country in the world exhibits total freedom - there ar always wage slaves, or in the cases of socialist or communist countries everyone is a slave equally, and etc.

This being the case - what kind of ramifications will this tollerated "slavery" in the US currently have for later down the road?

There is a huge difference between forced slavery and voluntary.
If I go to another country KNOWING that I will get the worst jobs with the
worst conditions and I still go and take a job like that, then how can I expect
a comeback further down the track? It was my CHOICE.

I know of lots of jobs that young people take on while still at school that are called
slave jobs, for slave wages. McDonalds,KFC and other major fast food outlets being
the main culprits. They have been doing it and getting away with it for years.
After all, if you dont like it , dont work there. Let someone who is willing do it.
Easy.
It just isnt illegal immigrants who have to do these jobs that university graduates and
those from affluent families wont do. Its also the kids of the lower and middle working class who have to "start at the bottom" with no perks thrown to them.

I 'm with Flighty here. This is a choice people make. Slaves had no choice about coming here or working, for that matter. I think it's an insult to slaves to compare what they endured to the situation with illegal immigrants. They're making a choice to break the law of the US, they're making a choice to take a job or not. They're making a choice which job to take. They're making a choice to work or quit and go back home, ot take another job. They're making a choice what to do with their earnings. They don't get killed if they walk off the job one day.

This country does need people who work for low paying jobs, but to pull the 'slave' card is simply an emotional hook to get response. Lou Dobbs said:

Well, there are jobs Americans won't do for the slave wages being paid to illegal aliens.
Dallas Morning News

He didn't say that illegal immigration is akin to slavery. There's a subtle but important difference. "Slave wages" is a term that means very low wages. That's different than saying that illegal immigrants are modern day slaves.

Today's illegal immigrants are slaves, the rich don't want them to learn english and gain power so they make sure they don't by doing bi-lingual education, encouring the population of illegals not to blend into society and progress and keeping them in low paying jobs and in poverty. The rich of this country have created a cheap, permanent labor pool of useful idiots and that was their goal. The only difference between today's slaves and the ones of yester-year are that all of those slaves from the past were forced to come here, now only about half of he working slaves are... Think about the facts, the populace pays for the medical care of these slaves, they are paid minimum wage at best, are held down, treated like dogs.. So where is the real difference? There is none! Those of you who disagree with me probably don't know much about slavery, but I come from a southern virginia family who did it all and I see very few if any differences between what my relatives did 150 years ago and what corporate america is doing today.

No, it's not slavery reborn, but it does provide Americans with a replacement for the second-class citizens who have done the work first-class citizens won't do.

Anyway you look at it, it's unfair. It really bears a closer resemblance to indentured servitude, which is kind of what an amnesty program would be.

Indentured servitude would be kinder, because people could come here on a contract that would expire and culminate in citizenship, as long as other requirements were met.

Illegal immigration is really a human rights issue that spans borders and can only be resolved by nations working together to keep people from having to flee economic problems in one country to live in an illegal condition in another.

Absolutely not slavery reborn. Two very different things. People coming here of their own choice, accepting jobs that are normally unacceptable by most americans to fill their budgetary needs. I think a lot of these jobs while deemed low paying are helping to keep American companies competitive and keeping the end-user prices lower then what they would be had the jobs need to be farmed out at a much higher rate.

Wage Slaves!

Okay, I have a new argument as to why they ARE slaves who are FORCED to work. In our society, people use currency to purchase, food, shelter and entertainment. Those of us that do not have a working or functioning economy are FORCED to move because they litterally CANNOT survive without working. It is almost impossible. You need money for food, so where does money come from(usually) work!

Now we have all these people who cannot live in their own country and are forced to move to some place that has money avaible. They seek a job just to survive, they do not want to work at these places but DO NOT HAVE A CHOICE. Money is the source of slavery. To survive you need at least Food and water which costs money, so people are litterally starving if they do not have a source of income.

In America, we have gotten rid of involentary survitude. We replaced that with inflation to Force those of us that want a more peaceful lifestyle back into the work force.

It really is slavery, not forced but implemented in a way nessesary to survive.

Maybe slavery at the begining of this country was actually a test on 2 types of slavery. The first time was forced slavery and the African community. The second type was Wage slaves.

Wage slaves have become such a dominant force that from age 5 + we are sent to brainwashing camps (schools) to teach us how to be better wage slaves. Its tottaly disgusting.

It infuriates me every time I think about it.

It comes down too, these people either get a #ty job and waste their precious life on crappy menial tasks so some Uber rich family can buy a new plasma.

The difference between the slaves of yester-year (if that's even a word) and the immigrants (being termed in this topic as slaves) of today?

150 years ago slaves were rounded up from remote villages put onto boats against their will brought to the states, sold and kept as property, not educated, not medically treated, physically abused by their owners and if they tried to flee they were, in most cases, allowed to be hunted down and killed.

The so called "slaves" of today? They sneak into the border ... often risking death and crossing in isolated desert areas going days without proper rations, sometimes in extreme heat. They "look" (ie, voluntarily) for a job, under the table, that may or may not pay minimum wage. Their children are allowed to go to school, ghey are free to leave at anytime, and get emergency medical treatment at local hospitals for free. If they are caught and sent packing, they often try to sneak right back across the border. I don't think the slaves of 150 years ago would try to get back stateside if they were somehow able to make it back to their homeland.

I am in no way saying the illegal immigrants have an easy life in our country. I live in California ... I see first hand the struggles of the legal and illegal immigrants .. some of the scond class treatment they recieve. But they are not the indentured servants of the 1800's and early 1900's. Most places in California ... hosptials/school districts/etc make it clear that they don't care about immigration status in order to provide their services and they do not report illegals to the INS. Even law enforcement around here doesn't report illegals (typically) unless they are involved in a crime ... the reason being that if someone is a victim of a crime you want them to feel free in coming forth with their statement.

EXACT-A-TACTLY!! It is sick. I don't think there is anything wrong with "working your way up" but that should be at worst a starting position and sadly it has become more of a "career", if it can be called that. I mean, doesn't it strike anyone strange that today you have to have both parents working professional jobs, just to have the same standard of living that was assured with one professional job 60 years ago? But people just refuse to see it. I have tried to tell people, but something about telling them that they are really slaves puts them off though.. LOL!

What can you do? Escape to the northern woods, and plant a garden, grow your own food and remove yourself from the situation? Or wait until your next RFID..errr...B12 shot, and then you'll never be able to excape!

What you people fail to see is that these people come here ILLEGALLY. What per of ILLEGALLY do you not unserstand?!?! It is plain and simple. To stop this, those that come here ILLEGALLY are sent to work at the jobs that Americans don't want (Do not get me started on that) Since they broke the law, they can do these jobs without PAY!! This way we have someone to do the work.
For those whinning LIBERALS out there F.U. These people broke OUR laws. It is not our responsiblilty to take care of them, it is their home country, namely MEXICO.
The Mexican Govt is aiding these people. Maybe the US should just annex Mexico...wipe away their Govt, and take their resources. Just because Mexico can not control it self is no reson why we should have to take the fall out. Mexico sucks...guess what it is their problem, not ours.

Does anyone know how much these people earn roughly per week?
I mean are we talking really bad, like $50 a week or something really ridiculous.
What is slave wages to one person can be enough to get by for others, depending
on lifestyle.

The reason I ask, is because I know of people here in Oz who cant find permanent
work and work as casuals on an on-call basis who only bring home $400 a week.
(Gross before tax). This is considered below the "breadline" here.
Or on the poverty line.
That is people who are born here and also legal immigrants as well.

I know a cleaner here can earn a wage of roughly $400 a week.
And it really isnt considered a "lowly" job. We dont seem to have the same acute class
definitions as the U.S maybe?
I'm curious to know , if anyone can help.

What do you people not understand?!?! These people came here ILLEGALLY. For all intents and purposes theyy are INVADERS! These people come here, EXPECTING help from the GOVT. We should round these SOB
s up, deport their asses, and anyone willing to help them should be EXECUTED for TREASON!

I don't work my ass off, and pay TAXES for some foriegner to come here and bleed me dry.

You want to tax me....THEN HELP AMERICANS! All ILLEGALS should be shot, that would stop them from coming here. But we have 2 parties. Democrats and Republicans who want them here for different reasons.

The Democrats want them here to vote for them!!

The Republicans want them here too get the business vote!!!

It's time we stand up as AMERICANS,, with no political affiliaton. And say HELL NO!!!

Wages for most illegals are actually on a par with legal positions, day workers get paid on average $7-$10 per hr, they usually demand $10.00 at the Home Depot type stores. Farm workers get a little less, usually $5.00 an hour for picking crops. Some illegals can make upwards of $60,000.00 per year, I know, I used to write the checks.

The big problem is that Illegal usually send a large portion of their money back to their family every month, they prefer to live in substandard crowded apartments or houses with landlords that look the other way because they can save more money this way. Also, there some employers who will not pay them after a days work and threaten them with "La Migra!".

Which is more abusive, the U.S. in which the illegals work and are paid "slave wages" or Mexico that drives it's citizens out because it is so corrupt and "broken" that they can't even find a job?
