i have lived here all of my life I remember when i was small seeing the jeeps coming by our house hauling barrels of stuff in and out of the area we lived near the entrance at the other end of the wildlife area off of 53 west. my exhusband said when his father was alive they would come by carring stuff and some of it spilled in the road they would walk out there to see what it was it looked liked some kind of powder. strange I have two brothers that were born during this time both retarded my exhusbands dad died from lukemiahe did not smoke. and his little brother is about the same age as mine is retarded and now my ex has lukemia. i also know of others that lived near by had children who are retarded or has some genetic disorder I wish ther was some way to check further into this but I don't know where to start

As for the Nuclear Engine for airplane test site at Georgia.... Google Project MX-1589. The engines were developed at the Idaho National Lab.
The purpose of the Geogia site was to help determine protection of the plane crew and the development of a cockpit to protect the crew. I'm sure it was also used till 1971 to examine the effects for a Project Pluto.... nuclear contamination from a nuclear ramjet engine.

After reading over the post here i decided to tell the story of my time escorted from dawson forest by military police and f.b.i.
In the early to mid 90's i lived just over the dawson/forsyth county lines off of hwy 9 and on one nice summer day i had gotten tired of riding my dirt bike in my backyard,So a friend and myself decided to travel down hwy 9 on our dirtbikes and make the quick left into dawson forest.

We had been there for about an hour traveling all of the forest(at this time there had been alot of dirt piles and downed logs which i thought were from old logging companies) We were off are bikes long when we discovered a large path it just did not seem like it was part of a old forest logging company rd.Then we noticed alot of what seemed to be a concrete door or door that had been concreted over which we thought was strange. We began to look around the remaining area we were in and found several signs from a construction company that was from the atlanta area and finally we found a large military sign that stated the area was off limits to unauthorized persons and this we had found even stranger because we had not known of any military base. as we continued to look around we had noticed a small entrance covered with overgrown weeds and other debris. After clearing some of the debris away we noticed that the small entrance was not so small it was the size of a loading dock door and it was concreted over as well but on the edge of the door you could see the tracks for where the door would slide up and down on. after several more minutes of prying off debris you could see a sign that statec highly radioactive this had peeked our intrest but just as we had gotten that far a military jeep rolled up with two mp's in it..

As the two mp's had gotten out of the jeep another vehichle had pulled up and this one had two F.B.I AGENTS after several minutes of listening to the F.B.I agents threaten us and tell us that we were trespassing on government property and that if they wanted to they could lock us up (and the whole time there yelling at us the mp's have there riffles trained on us) after giving them are names and addresses along with telephone numbers we were told that if we were ever caught in the area again we would be arrested and locked up. We were aloud to push our dirtbikes to the main dawson forest rd where we were then escorted out of the forest with the f.b.i in the car in front of us and the mp's in there jeep behind us.

After returning to my house and talking to my dad and explained everything to him. he had said that he had heard the stories while at the main dinner in dawsonville he said that he had dismissed al of it as just small town gossip til i had told him what happened to me. all i know is that day i was never so scared as i was .. i no longer live in dawson county but my father and stepmother still do and when i return i still ride in the forest but not in the area where i was caught by the mp's and the F.B.I i have come close but just have not been able to cross over a certain section of the forest for fear of being arrested
