Take a look at this image

What looks like an Artists Conception, is in reality, a collage of images, taken in September. There are some enhancements, and some of the images are of non-visible wavelenghts. But It's a real image.

Saturn and Cassini were postiioned in such a way that Sunlight was blocked, and the rings were illuminated from behind. This backlighting offered the opportunity to take imagery as never before.

These images made possible, the discovery of more, very ethereal rings..made of microscopic particles.

Next?
Hunting for the tiny moonlets that may be lurking within, and around these newly discovered rings.

exellent find!!

amazing to know saturn has more rings!!
makes u wonder how much more that is under our noses remains undiscovered!!

abit off topic but i remember john lear sayin that saturn is one of the most fascinating places in our solar system, and we (the public) have never seen the real saturn, makes u wonder if this is really a natural or manufactured process!!
would luv to see the beauty of it all for myself!!
but ohhhh well!!!

I just keep loading up that big image.

I can't believe what a beauty it is.

We may find that the ring system evolves in very short time frames.
I know there are some smaller structures that are altered minute by minute, by the passage of moons.
But there may be even bigger structures, like an entire ring, that could form, and disappear in very short intervals..

that large image is amazing
never seen anything like that before

I can't help but wonder what some of the other planets would look like if we ever had a chance to do the same to them

thank you very much for sharing this spacedoubt

Wow! Looks mysterious and ghostly!! Excellent pic.

Yeah John Lear did say that the truth about Saturn changed his life. It's in this thread. Check it out.

By the way, there are intelligent lifeforms in that image.

Just to the left of the brighter rings, inside the dimmer ones.
on that bright dot.
