Well,BlackGuard, I suspect that you are right in your assumption about the "cleansing" that is to come. Actually, it has already begun, but I am not going to get into that here. The anti-Christ and the apocalypse in general must come to pass before the "golden age" arrives. Christ himself said that "all these things must come to pass;" everything has a purpose.

Now, fundamentalists will argue that the anti-Christ serves no purpose at all other than the destruction of God's people. However, that is in stark contrast to what Christ said. Without the appearance of the anti-Christ, Jesus let it be quite clear that he would not return until the anti-Christ sits upon the throne of David and declares himself "king of kings".

So, everything does have a purpose.
