I read here and a few other places about Google censoring videos and content.Ive also heard one of the last free becons of hope in Youtube.
Well if both of the above are true, than looks like the reigns on the ability to post "inappropriate content" (i.e mostly likely anything with an opposing political viewpoint) are getting tighter.Im guessing Google will put the clamps down on Youtube as well.

(BBC)-Google is reported to be in talks to buy popular video-sharing website YouTube for $1.6bn (£856m).

Once, it was Microsoft that was prime candidate for world domination and the epitome of evil. Now, we have Google replacing them.

Wonder if they are gonna get targeted for an anti-monopoly suit soon?

Well it had to be on the card eventually didn't it? It'll still be a crying shame if google get ahold of it. Give it them few years time and Mircosoft will seem positively harmless in comparison!

Google among others , should of been on the cutting edge of acquisition/merger
talks at least 6 months ago.

here's a chance for TimeWarner to augment their AOL (loser) with a real revenue potential.... in a Youtube merger!

Let The Bidding Begin!

I wish I would have thought of the YouTube concept. $1.6 billion? WOW. Isn't that alot for a website? All I can say is nice payoff for a simple website.

ugh tell me about it =( why can't we think of stuff like that!

mind you, I wouldn't say it was a "simple" website..there seems to be a hell of a lot of work put into it everyday

my heart just sank hearing that google might buy youtube
i love it just the way it is! I'm so sick of google..!!!

What's next?...Myspace?
or worse! lol...Wonder how would they'd sell it for? hmmm any Ideas?

About the Government tracing your search's,I don't like it but you have to realise that the "search warning bell" will not ring unless youre looking at certain site's child porn/how to make a bomb personaly I don't care if they can trace your search's it doesnt effect me.

Power (and welth) corrupts.

Google was one of the good guys back in the day when they were a smallish search engine that you could count on. Through that they managed to garner mass public interest. That interest naturally has been translated into marketshare and now Google has gone from Small Fish to Fat Cat.

I'm not convinced that they need to be branded with the "Evil" stick just yet, but they've definetly allowed corperate interests to guide them lately.

Now YouTube is the Small Fish. If they manage to avoid being eaten by Google (or Time Warner) it's really just a matter of time before they start along the same path.

Ain't capitalism great?

And you've never searched on how to make a nuclear bomb just for the hell of it?

Why would Google buy the hugely unprofitable Youtube anyway? Whats the point when there are at least a dozen competitors out there that do exactly the same thing?

If they do go through with it, I smell another Myspace fiasco.

For those who don't know, I believe MySpace was bought out by News corp and that caused a HUGE exodus to their competitors. It's not as if google can patent video streaming sites, that is already held by a company called and they are having a helluva time collecting royalties cuz they waiting too long to cash in.

To all you guys who look at YouTube as a small fish in the Internet tank, your oh so wrong.

Sequoia Capital is the firm thats backing YouTube financialy, its the most prominent and important venture capital firm in the world.

As are many sites like MySpace and YouTube, they are setup, promoted and initialy make massive losses, to be able to start them up as widespread and high traffic and high exposure as possible, with the soul purpouse of selling out as soon as possible for as much profit as possible.

When a site apears on the web and climbs to be top traffic ranked in a matter of months, you can be sure that it was setup with a corporate backing to start with.

I love the "cool" apple and google crowd are anti microsoft, and yet those two companies are just like microsoft in different clothing.

These outside companies are not very outside.
