Here you have it; there is no more free speech at Columbia University if this group gets their way.

A group of what can only be seen, as radical students did not even give Minuteman founder Jim Gilchrist a chance to speak as he approached the podium, instead they overran the stage while kicking chairs, tables and then attacked Mr. Gilchrist.. The very same students earlier shouted at another member of Gilchrist's party an African American and demanded he speak in Spanish.

nysun.com
Students stormed the stage at Columbia University's Roone auditorium yesterday, knocking over chairs and tables and attacking Jim Gilchrist, the founder of the Minutemen, a group that patrols the border between America and Mexico.

Mr. Gilchrist and Marvin Stewart, another member of his group, were in the process of giving a speech at the invitation of the Columbia College Republicans. They were escorted off the stage unharmed and exited the auditorium by a back door.

Having wreaked havoc onstage, the students unrolled a banner that read, in both Arabic and English, "No one is ever illegal." As security guards closed the curtains and began escorting people from the auditorium, the students jumped from the stage, pumping their fists, chanting victoriously, "Si se pudo, si se pudo," Spanish for "Yes we could!"

[........]

The pandemonium that ensued as the evening's keynote speaker took the stage was merely the climax of protest that brewed all week. A number of campus groups, including the Chicano caucus, the African-American student organization, and the International Socialist organization, began planning their protests early this week when they heard that the Minutemen would be arriving on campus.

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

Video and Pictures of the mob can be seen here

What amazes me is the banner they waved was in Arabic and English, but no Spanish, yet the protesters demanded one speaker speak in Spanish. :shk:

I do not know about the rest of you but I find the actions of these individuals appalling because they could not just protest peacefully, they had to turn into a mob instead. This was hardly what most of us consider the American way and all the more reason we have to stop the influx of illegal immigrants.

Colleges are full of idiots. Some graduate and become educated idiots. Those involved in this disturbance should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, preferably the death penalty.

And why were there not security guards with non-lethal weapons?

I know that may sound evil and conservative, but if they knew
ahead of time about these groups setting up protests, and they
knew they was a chance of violence.

It's things like this that give liberalism a bad name.

You know now that I think about it, why were these organizations
allowed in, if it's obvious thy're not going to like the speakers?

I was wondering the very same thing, also it should be noted none of the stories that covered the even made no mention of any arrests either.

---------

I am with Grady here the death penalty would be in our best interests.

I think sentencing them to death for it is definately going to far,
but hey we all have the right to our opinions.

I do think they all should have been arrested, given a week in
the slammer and a $5,000USD fine (each), for both endangerment
and disturbing the peace.

The students did allow them to speak. The video shows the aftermath, and if you notice on the right hand side of the screen the Republican Conservative students who invited those people to speak began attacking the protestors, as you can see one student with a cap on pushing and trying to grab the signs. The entire thing is tanscribed towards the bottom under the videos.

Speaking one or two minutes is not what I would consider being allowed to speak.

from below the video it states he took the stage sometime between 851 and 900 p.m. Note: the exact time was not given.

Finally the Minuteman himself enters. "Now who're you calling racist?" he shouts, putting his arm around Stewart, who is black. "I love the First Amendment. As soon as you graduate, you'll all be investment bankers. I've been where you at. I know you hate yourselves."

Update 9:00 pm: BWOG IS SHOCKED. STUDENTS WITH A BIG YELLOW SIGN JUST CAME ONTO THE STAGE. The sign says, "There are no illegals." Students rise en masse from the audience and rush the stage. The Minuteman and the students engaged in a tug of war with the banner. Source

The speaker had just come out on the stage and had not yet had a chance to speak. Also there was security there and they stood by and did nothing, this will cost Columbia a lot of money and rightley so.

Speaking as a former security guard, I'm not gonna tussle with commies and dirty hippies for eight bucks an hours. It won't cover a busted jaw, or even stitches.

Remember Concordia? Or, if you're an American, learn about Concordia in the first place. Netanyahu was invited to speak, and the same thing happened...except with mroe violence and left-sympathy.

en.wikipedia.org...

Before the speech was to take place, protesters inside the building stormed barricades which had been setup to block access to the building's lobby from inside. They took control of the building's mezzanine, but were stopped at the escalator leading to the lobby by police in riot gear. Meanwhile, protesters outside the building began banging on windows in support of those inside. For the duration of the standoff, ticket-holders pushed their way through a thick crowd of protesters outside the building (some were physically assaulted or spat upon), entered through a secured access complete with metal detectors, and were escorted to the auditorium, exchanging verbal insults and gestures with the protesters inside.

From above.

Welcome to this generation's version of justified, 'peaceful' protests. Makes me sick, but I couldn't choose when I was born.

I agree with a lot of security being there, but I do not see how this can cost Columbia anything since no one was injured or harmed physically.

Or am I perhaps missing something here?

Jim Gilchrist never got a chance to speak. His associate, Stewart, had spoken before him, but Gilchrist is the one these children were waiting for. As for the inaction of the Columbia Police, their pay rates have nothing to do with their failure to act. They should be fired.

I also find it ironic that on the banner that these "college students" were holding they had misspelled the word illegal. Seems like they should be paying more attention to their books and less time assaulting innocents.

Ahh, the benefits of a very expensive education at a top ten University.

College children are high school children with a slightly better education, they are perceived as better people when in fact, they are not. They are still the ill-mannered products of their parents loins, parents that refused (in the name of working) to be involved in their raising while their nannies took care of them. Of course all that will change when they get their graduate degrees and demand that employers pay them hundreds of thousands of dollars a year for their "knowledge". I believe that all children should enter the military or peace corps for a period of three years before being allowed to continue on to University level or college level studies. Of course, the peace corps should also work in th epoor areas of our own nation too)

Kids today only have a Hollywood idea (or even a computer gaming idea) of what the real world is about. The number of them that will learn the hard way - 99%.

Communists says someone else? Children placed with Nanny's?

Did you maybe consider perhaps some of those kids were the children of the nannies themselves? Maybe the spanish guy that cleans your halls, or the jamaican guy who dumps the waste paper pails in your office, or the daughter of the chamber maid at the last hotel you stayed in..who might have saved every penny of their hard work just to send their kid to Columbia one day, and here are these guys committed to keeping out illegal immigrants and even threatening to shoot them possibly. I guess it would be an affront to them to host these people or to hear them speak. I won't agree with violence but I surely don't blame them for being pissed off.

Spoken like a true Nazi: DISSENTERS SHOULD BE KILLED! Sorry to bandy about the N-word, but if you're going to invoke the death penalty for something as trivial as this in which no-one was hurt, you deserve it.

Firstly, any actual assault that took place should be prosecuted. Peaceful protests are one thing, unprovoked assault is Nazi bully-boy tactics and should be discouraged.

Thirdly... maybe it's just me, but I can't help thinking "agents provocateurs"... why a sign in Arabic? That's one little detail that's just going to nag and nag.

Jim Gilchrist said that while his associate, who is black, was speaking, the protestors often shouted out the N word. Kinda ironic, don't you think, since they were accusing the Minutemen of being racist?

And when Gilchrist gave him a hug on stage, the hell broke loose. I guess the protestors couldn't integrate the fact of a white man hugging a black man into their twisted way of thinking.

There have been 2 young ladies, organizers of the protest, appearing on TV to defend the melee. Gilchrist mentioned that they will probably be some of the key defendants named in a civil rights suit that he plans to file.

I doubt that very much. If their parents toiled to make it possible for them to attend Columbia, then chances are very good that they are not wasting their time with these losers. They are most likely hitting the books or working to help pay for their education.

And I doubt that their parents support the illegals. Having worked so hard to achieve the dream, if only for their children to enjoy, I doubt very much if they support someone who wants to jump in front of them in line.

I couldn't agree with you more on this point. With a little bit of discipline can go a long way in solving this types of incidents.

I mean honestly, what do we expect. The left wing nuts in this country are intellectually bankrupt and it frustrates them to violence. They can't allow discussions or open debate because they CAN NOT WIN. Their only recourse is personal attacks, censorship, and violence.

It's funny how these type of liberals are always complaining that conservatives never respect their opinions and view points, then they go off and do something idiotic like this and cry even more about not being heard or respected. These people need to wake up and realize how stupid they look and how acting like this is just going to make things worse for liberals in general.

I like how they had arabic on one of their signs, like they're like saviours or something.
