Can anyone tell me the name of this

I am uploading this pick, to see if any of the mechanics, engineers etc can tell me what the part circled in red is. I would appreciate any help offered. I believe this is part of the CV joint, but not sure

I dont see any part circled in red but it might be a dooble buffer.

You may want to make the circle a little darker, and possibly smaller to be more specific? I'm certainly not an engineer, but to me that looks like the crank case?

I believe 'transfer case' may be what that is called.

'Crankcase' usually refers to the engine block itself, where the 'crank' spins.

right you are! sorry. I got my cases switched. I have a case of case switching....

If I am looking at the right spot, Yes that is the transfer case. No it is not
part of the CV (constant Velocity) Joint. It is part of, or more properly , attached to
the transmission. The CV joints are those cylindrical shaped things on the ends of the shafts running from the wheels to the transfer case. Because of the transfer case
this would appear to be a 4WD vehicle. Most front wheel drive vehicles do not have
a transfer case like this, FWD usually the shafts come directly from the trans.
