Ok, first off I feel I should point mention a few things.

Where I live aerial activity is the norm, in fact it's odd to not hear
atleast one plane fly over an hour.

I live in Everett Washington, about 7 miles from a large Boeing plant and
its accomaning airport.

There's also a small airfield for small cessna type planes about 5 miles from
here.

Anyways, normally I hear a heicopter once every few days, and on those
days about two or three times.

However, the last week or two I've heard and seen about 1-5 helicopters
pass overhead a day.

They've ranged from normal helicopters to the small bubble cockpit kind
to military choopers, I saw two Chinooks flyby about 3.5 weks ago.

Anyways, it just sort of seems odd to me that there's been such a notice-
able increase.

Does anyone know if any new technology in the public sector
has been put onto helicopters, like sensors or photo things
for imaging?

That's an interesting thought, but two things moot it as a possibility.

1. It's not a public airport, it's owned by Boeing and used for their
planes for testing and stuff like that, not one planes fly to and offload
passengers at.

2. in general war supplys would fly from government bases and
airports.

Hmmmm..

Ok yea, I live across the country in South Florida, and I have also noticed an increase in helicopter activity. This area is prone to aero-activity, but it has been more active with helicopters lately.

Just like you, it was every few days, now I see them everyday, at least 3-5 times. Usually around 1-2pm and then later on in the evening, around 10-midnight.

It's been such an unsual increase that even my friends have taken notice. The copters are usually seen flying from the west, towards the east, where the airport is (Ft. Lauderdale International), and then in most cases, I see them flying back westerly. The most common helicopter Ive seen is a black one. No visible markings but I have bad eyesight.

It was freaky seeing the thread title because I had recently thought of posting this peculiar activity for feedback. I wonder if anyone else around the country has noticed anything similar?

Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for adding the info aecreate.

It is very interesting to see that it may be nation wide.

That is sort of odd to, because it does seem to be cerain times
here as well.

Well, now that you mention it......
I was just discussing this earlier today with my Mother.
I made special note of the instance when two were travelling together.
I live by a medium size park and one actually landed about 3 blocks from my house in the grass in the park.
My Mother also noticed two of them traveling together yesterday.

I also can't identify markings, but the one I saw close enough to tell didn't have any visible markings, and was dark in color, but I wouldn't say black.

I live in the Midwest.

That fits my friends' description, again, I have bad eysight, but its def been a dark-colored helicopter. I haven't noticed any flying together, that I can remember. This is getting interesting.

A month or two ago we started having a major increase in air traffic heading to and from somewhere. It's died down, but we started seeing military helicopters every few days when the normal air traffic is seeing an aircraft pass overhead about once a month.

I remember my aunt and grandmother had spotted themselves a flat black military helicopter without markings flying very low across the town about fifteen minutes away from there. They were outside, and I barely made it out in time to see it pass over the trees and out of sight.
