There is a lot of chatter of a nuclear device going off inside our borders via Terrorists. If one went off, and you had less than 10 minutes to leave your home and escape, what would you bring?

Me personally:

-SUV with extra gasoline in the trunk
-Shotgun, with ammunition and a metal saw
-utility knife
-medic kit
-contacts of local police department and friends in the police and/or national guard
-Vitamins, bottled water, canned food + opener, and thyroid anti-radiation pills
-boots, extra underwear, rugged pants and jacket- preferably BDU's of some sort
-cell phone, with pad and paper
-survival book(s)
-friends of mine sharing goal of survival
-maps of US, Mexico, and Canada

Please add in what you would bring and methods of survival you would use if a nuclear device went off. We are talking a lot about this on ATS, but if it does happen, we have to be prepared.

Battries, Radio, Torch, a box of canned food, a couple of significant photos, a watch, matches and a camera!

Well, pretty much the same stuff you mentioned, but I'll make a list.

-Various sized knives.
-The few personal effects that mean anything to me.
-Gym bag of clothes.
-CD copies of all my information. (I keep these in a small safe.)
-The closest small electronic devices.
-First-Aid kit.
-Water, food stores, associated tools/utencils.
-Maps.
-Paper & Pens/pencils.
-Batteries.
-A few books. (I don't want to go crazy from boredom)

Personally I think if there is a detonation, it will be a smaller one,
and only in a single city, most likely on the East coast.

*Hits head.*

Gah, how could I forget one of humanities greatest inventions,
duct tape.

You know, I just thought of something, if you have say a cat,
what do you do with it, leave it there, to posibly die from
radiation poisoning, or bring it with you, and let it roam the wild?

well the cat could be a testing mecanism.

If your unsure of some strange coloured gas in the area.. let poor ol pussy do the walking.

AS for the camera, hoping in hell your going to live and be part of the 'new world' I think having first class documentation of life during and after a nuclear attack would be very very precious.

Plus various drifters whom help you and you'll never see again would mean a lot if you had a photo of mankinds most darkest day, yet still the goodness in man prevailed.

Dust/surgical mask, so as not to breath fallout.

Simple plastic or rubber over-clothing (such as cheap rain coat and pants) and a hat - take these off before entering residence - eliminates bringing radioactive material into the house.

A few extra women - to re-populate the earth (still trying to convince the wife this is necessary)

For those of you that have their stuff in electronically operated safes - you may want to protect them against EMP or they will remain "safe" for a long, long time.

Oh - and a portable water filter with replacement cartridges - the camping kind that filters every thing out.
