Stanford University Medical center and Packard Childrens hospital have joined a small number or academic medical facilities that have banned its staff from accepting gifts, including drug samples, from pharma companies or other medical equipment makers. This includes a ban on industry reps from the hospital and the medical school unless they are providing an in-service etc.

Hopefully this becomes a trend and treatment options are not confined to whatever rep took the doctor out to dinner last.

Good on them!

Saw a rep the other day scheduling lunch in my Neurologic clinic for 26 office staff and doctors to attend.

Like that doesn't add to the cost of my meds over time.
