The armed driver of an SUV in an act of crazed drug induced fervor drove his vehicle through the gate of the capitol and preceded inside the capitol building. where he roamed through the hallways until apprehended by capitol security.

(CBS/AP) An armed man ran through the U.S. Capitol after crashing his vehicle on the Capitol grounds Monday in the worst breach of security since a gunman killed two police officers in 1998.

Though the Capitol is guarded like a fortress – with car barricades, police every few feet and some with automatic weapons and shotguns – this man somehow managed to get inside and run through the center of the building, CBS News correspondent Bob Fuss reports.

Acting Capitol Police Chief Christopher McGaffin identified the intruder as Carlos Greene, 20, of Silver Spring, Md. He said Greene, tackled after a foot chase through the Capitol, was armed with a loaded handgun and had crack coc aine in his possession.

Greene appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance and "exhibited signs of seizure," McGaffin said. He was taken to Greater Southeast Community Hospital.

One has to wonder how this could happen with such tight security, as is the case surrounding the capitol. how could one individual get so far as to even enter the capitol building? we could only hope that no terrorist were watching this inspiring incident.
