most excellent thread elf!
i wanted to share that on a flight last week coming back from Burbank, i read an article where they have found a whole new population of apes that were originally thought to have been down to less than 100,000 left.
this new discovery has added to that number quite a bit.
A gruelling survey of vast tracts of forest and swamp in the northern Congo Republic has revealed the presence of more than 125,000 western lowland gorillas, a rare example of abundance in a world of rapidly vanishing primate populations.
gorillas found
Thank you Zoolplanton,
This survey came out on the same day. I was aware of it but I did find it both a happy and sad moment. Though they have found this new population of Gorillas the news seemed to overshadow the surveys "big Picture" warnings and results, that for example at this moment now in Asia 70% of all primate species are at risk of becoming extinct very very soon.
This extra population of Gorillas found does not change the status of the species, it is still in the same category of Critically Endangered. A war or natural disaster, like was seen in Rwanda where poaching started again due to the political problems would push this species to extinction.
I Find we forget about the time spans, many of the species of primates need a few generations, on the terms of over a hundred years to regain their populations properly, and we are destroying their habitat, and populations soo quickly it could quickly come to the point of no return without us even being aware it has happened.
Thank you soo much for the bonobo and Oran info I hadn’t seen that!

You must have passionate women in your life then, mine have many times had their eyes closed or doing their nails or watching TV at
the time! That Chimpette looks quite into it by comparison
Kind Regards,
