plus what aussie even uses the term 'forest' to refer to the bush?

White man has only been here a short while, and many people still call the treed areas 'forests.' I guess it depends on the individuals.

Where I live there are large areas of forest and also plenty of rainforests.

P.S It just crossed my mind that perhaps the old guy used the word 'bush' and I naturally thought he was referring to forest? We were working in deep forest at the time that he told me about the incident. Maybe I got the word wrong after more than 23 yrs? If I did then I appologize for misleading anyone. However the man was quite certain that there were lots of natives in the area that were vaporized by the blast.
