Well my question in this case would be a little more subtle than that...

It does however prove it is difficult to take NASA's word that the images they show us are indeed real...

Well going with zarni's prompt I could say that the lunar surface in that image is the pseudo moon at Langley and the orbitor is a scale model.

So the answer to your query "who took the picture" is the man at Langley with the camera.

Zorgon i was thinking alike about that pic.

Is it real or a fake? Where ever it may be I will still assume it is the Moon. At a quick glance this is what I see. At Approx 7 oclock using the Lunar Orbiter as the reference Is the round shinny disc that is apparentely attached to the Orbiter.

Beneath the right solar panel of the Orbiter is an eliptical shaped flying saucer near or on the surface.

Toward the upper left of photo you will notice a horizontal structure shaped like the capitol letter E and near the top left of the E shaped structure are verticle geometrical shaped buildings.

Looking @ approx. 2 oclock again using the Orbiter as reference near the top right corner of photo are the sequence numbers and letter 25Y standing vertically.

Again at approx. 2 oclock you will notice a large crater that looks to me like a watery slurry overflowing over the front walls of crater or possibly from an ancient or past Lava flow. On the back side of the crater wall are elongated patterned structures running the entire length of the crater wall.

To the bottom right corner of photo is the tiny number 8 above the 8 is the letter 3 backwards or letter E and to the left of the 8 and E is the large verticle X that casts a shadow.

To the right of the Orbiter solar panel is a wall I will call the dragon fly body wall. A 90 degree wall connects with dragon fly body shaped wall and another 90 angled wall is attached to the middle wall. Inside buildings I believe to be a processing or treatment plant of some kind and there is more.

If its real............your're right , who took the photo? But if its not, how is it the satellite suspended in the air? Maybe I'm missed a post or I'm missing something.....

Oh, also... Is it just me, or did anyone else notice that all the LO-4 images disappeared at astrogeology.usgs.gov? I haven’t been there for a while, so I don’t know how long they’ve been gone.

All the high-res gzip LO-4 links from lpi to USGS are dead

Lunik 13 or Luna 13 so 1966 a luner lander but not a Rover.

That is a unusual shape kinda cylindrical a bit like a bobbin that could revolve on a spindle, it almost looks as if the spindle or axle is still in place except there is 2 shadow lines which can't be right.

What was also interesting to me was this regular dotted line feature I have arrowed in the picture.

I don't suppose it's impossible that hardware could have been deposited by the lander perhaps during landing. It looks a heck of a lot like a screw to me.

I think that line is there by the same reason those two curved lines are there, someone draw them there to show something.

Maybe someone who can read Russian will tell us what those lines are there for.

Well here are 2 pictures I have found for the moment of Luna 13 I am not sure if anything can be determined from them the object may be a part that is jettisoned upon landing.

Just some words, but I know the letters, and the last words look like:

konturi brokok (punktir)

and that makes me think that the dashed line (punktir?) is the contour (konturi?) of something.
