Professor Ebeling & The Illuminati

In Seth Payson's 1802 work "Proof of the Illuminati" he spends some time trying to refute the arguments of a certain Professor Ebeling who had wrote about Weishaupt and the Illuminati and was apparently one of the central critics of Robison and Barruel's conspiracy theories. Does anyone know exactly who this Professor Ebeling is, and has anyone read or seen available his writings about Weishaupt and the Illuminati?

i cant say as i have heard of him, but the illuminati isnt my specific field of study though i am certainly interested in the supposedly dead secret society, but perhaps you could be more specific as to which Ebeling it is, i just did a search on prof. ebeling and several names came up
