Ukrainian Pyramids!

I wasn't aware of Ukraine being regarded as a cradle of ancient civilisation, so what exactly the BBC is reporting about is a complete mystery to me. Still, interesting - the link is below:

From the sounds of it, its more like a Ukranian stonehenge. Of course, we must wait for verification, as desperation in that part of the world has produced numerous hoaxes.

Hmm, think I've got to agree with Skadi there, that region has produced lots of hoaxes (or at least fantasies), so we will have to see how this one pans out. The Guardian also picked up this story:

This bit from the end of the BBC piece is quite telling:

It is thought that it will take years for archaeologists to uncover the hidden truth.

In the meantime, tourism chiefs are keen to cash in and are already planning to open a hotel nearby.

This could be something like the Bosnian debacle, with a dodgy "archeologist" and local people desperate for some cash to flow into their town.

The BBC has egg on its face over this one -- the story was picked up from a Pravda source.
