Initial reports are coming in surrounding a standoff at an Arizona High School. Six people are believed to be holed up in the school, located on Navajo Nation land. One with a gun and the others armed with knives. It is not known whether the group has taken any hostages.

Six armed people were holed up Wednesday at a high school in northeastern Arizona, authorities said.

It was unclear whether the six were holding students hostage at Ganado High School or whether the six armed people were students.

Authorities said the incident began around mid-afternoon and that police sealed off the area around the school.

Let's all hope that this is neither a repeat of Beslan or Columbine. As of about 6:30 local time, no new updates are forthcoming. If any ATS'ers are in a position to add details from your local news agencies, please reply to keep us informed!

I've been fliping through all the major new channels on the TV and surprisingly there isn't much talk about this anywhere. Usually their on this kind of story like white on rice. I have seen a bunch of articals online though.

Ganado, Arizona is approximately 175 miles (2 hours 41 minutes-Mapquest) from the nearest major city in Arizona: Flagstaff. It is also approximately 319 miles from Phoenix (4 hours 45 minutes-Mapquest). Assuming that news crews departed from their local stations within one hour of the "mid-afternoon" (2pm?) timeframe listed in initial reports, TV trucks wouldn't begin to show up until about 5:45 and 7:45 respectively. Sure they'll probably speed to get there, but it's still going to take a while. I would be surprised if this story develops more until the late-night news.

22. hole up -dictionary.com
a. to go into a hole; retire for the winter, as a hibernating animal.
b. to hide, as from pursuers, the police, etc.: The police think the bank robbers are holed up in Chicago.

Watch some Westerns, they use the term holed up all the time...
