In a move that would further isolate his country Mr Ahmadinejad seems bent on removing any counterbalance to Islamic extremism by removing university professors and teachers deemed liberal.

www9.sbs.com.au
Iran's hard-line president has called on students to push for a purge of liberal and secular university teachers, in what's being seen as another sign of his determination to strengthen Islamic fundamentalism in the country. Analysts say that Mr Ahmadinejad appears determined to remake Iran by reviving the fundamentalist goals pursued under the republic's late founder, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

The Iranian president’s call to students echoes the rhetoric of the nation's 1979 Islamic revolution in a bid to weaken the power of Iran’s strong moderate factions.

Since taking office a year ago Mr Ahmadinejad has moved to replace pragmatic veterans in the government and diplomatic corps with former military commanders and inexperienced religious hard-liners. His administration also has launched crackdowns on independent journalists, websites and bloggers. Speaking to a group of students in Tehran, Mr Ahmadinejad called on them to pressure his administration to keep driving out moderate instructors, a process that began earlier this year.

What kind of country will Iran become without free thinkers? Ahmadinejad seems to want a totally radical Islamic superstate that will reject even the hint of a western idea. But can he just erase 150 years of secularism? We shall see.

Ahmadinejad Seeks Purging of Liberals!

First Reaction:
Looks like he has something in common with many of the Republicans in the US.

“Our educational curriculum has for the past 150 years been influenced by a secular society. The colonialists are after the expansion of a secular regime which they prefer”

-Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

I wonder who this "secular society" is .. or represents?

Or the Nazi secret police more like it. Purging sounds dangerously close to making them 'disappear' to me, as with Saddam Who's insane.

When did any political party in America have that kind of power since WWII ? And even then, in the 'red' hunts, the 'blacklisted' weren't killed.

Journalists converted to Islam. We got a 'warning' from the American jihadist.

Sounds to me like Ah-mad-inejad is starting with his own people with the "Convert or die" mentality of Islam.

It's the people not the party itself. If you want some examples, look at the sayings of Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and even many of those on ATS.

Many Republicans hate liberals in the US, but when they read a headline like this, they won't mind dogging Iran for it since it can be used in their political interests.

Of course Iran should be faulted for this, but you see the same thing happening in many "nationalizing" countries, including the US.

Ahmadinejad is looking more like a crazed mad man everyday, I would have to hope that there are still enough moderate leaders in Iran to stage a coup or something because if they dont, their necks could be next on the chopping block.

Ahmadinejad wants a country full of radicals!

Another appologists lol. NO, you don't see the same thing happening in the US. You're crazy. We don't purge here anyone. Hell, we don't even purge the illegal aliens. I can't believe some will defend this mad man all the way to the mushroom cloud. If I ever had any doubts, people like this help me make up my mind real fast. Always attacking the Bush Admin, while defending the maniacs of the world with "the US does it" or "the US has them". Sounds alot like a little child with out the benifit of a good argument. The man's idealogy is qouted for several news organisations. It is clear, he needs removed.

Yea, I only hope an Invasion wouldnt start WWIII, I think Bush has a better chance of getting an assasins bullet than Ahmadinejad does.

Does anyone remember that the president of Iran was one of the terrorist that was part of the US embassy crises. There's a clear picture of him in the video.

This guy is a mad man.

I dont think that fear is causing these responses La Balance, I think that anger is more the reason than fear, the actions that Ahmadinejad has taken is rather reminisent of book burning or witch hunts. which would naturally anger most people.

Much more then you would think
CNN did a funny bit on how Bush and he are so much alike then they appear, for instance they both make fun of the press when asked a question they don't like.

Maybe Bush is jelous that he can't call for a purge of liberals.

Their religion is the reason for the purging, this is what happens when religion runs the government. We will probably see more to come from this guy, he wont stop untill he has stripped every bit of western thinking from the land.

Yes I remember the whole thing, he's out of his gord, pictures of him came out after he became president of him during that crisis holding a firearm and showing him to be the terrorist that he is, why there wasnt a bigger deal made of it at the time I have no idea.

yes, and it really doesn't matter just what religion is running the show..does it..
who's working so hard to get religion within our government??
by the way? is IRan killing off their religious scholars now? didn't think so....he just said he wants them removed from the universities....wasn't it delay who said he wanted the liberal judges removed from the benches??
