It's starting right now, I just found out about it while I was watching the George Lopez show right before it.
They're talking about gamma ray bursts right now. This is the first of seven scenarios that they're going to describe.

It's an election year?
Fear sells. It's the month before fall season, things are a little slow and they need to pay their bills somehow.

Fear definately sells... But I wonder why they're showing this now.
Update: Stephen Hawking is being interviewed in the show.

To get ratings...think about it.
when all the august 22 stuff was being put up on news segments like Glen Beck, and the abrams report etc...people were freaking out and watching every
minute of it. so the network probably figured. "hey lets get some traction out of this while the mood is still good" so they made a special.
although this was the same one they showed months ago on the national geographic channel. so i wonder how they worked that one out.

Well come on, #1 was ovbiously one huge Al Gore ad. I don't care which view they show, or side they take, but when he has that much air time,
talking about how many scientists agree about the cause of global warming, yet all we do is hear from him. That's a politcal ad folks, and frankly
the man's a giant sedative to me, plus I would trust drug dealers, pimps, and theives more than any politician any day. Show me the scientist, not a
man telling me I should get a hybrid, when he pulls up to rallies in a freaking SUV.

Notice that the top three scenarios are all man-made or accelerated. Maybe the #1 spot should just say US (and not as in the United States).
Nerdling hit the motivation right on the head though, just making sure we stay spooked and easy to manipulate. Next Scare: "Pregnant Woman
Survives Attack by 'deranged' Otter!

Good show, imo. Unfortunately, I missed #4 (asteroids).
#2 (Plague) Seemed the scariest to me. Probably because it could so easily happen.
And I agree, WithoutEqual. It seemed like the whole program was built up to push the Al Gore/Global Warming agenda (even though I happen to agree with
it, I understand it is a much more controversial subject than they made it seem). I was hoping to see Stephen Hawking's opinion, but either I missed
it, or he said nothing.

What people don't get is, moves like this hurt the movement more than it helps it. It's alot easier to dismiss it as politics as usual, when the
person speaking the loudest, is a politician.

I still firmly beleive the thing that wipes us out will not be directly man caused. Too much of a religious hound to fall into that style of
thinking.

Oh joy, another prediction. Ya know, I ought to move out of the country and set up my own casino website that takes bets on this kind of thing.

There's been a significant increase inb the Mega Disastor shows on the history channel and/or A & E too over the past week. One of them ran these
shows back to back all weekend. What surprises me is that ABC has jumped on this bandwagon.
If the media is used to desensitize and/or prepare ourselves, I do think something is coming and they just don't want to pinpoint it - yet.
Just my opinion of course, but the proliferation of these shows I think go well beyond ratings. Although I think a lot of media sources are getting
their ideas right off the pages of ATS. All of this is old news if you are around here for a while.

But in the end, don't any of these scenarios lead to the same thing? Major disastor, marshall law, economic failure? In the end they may just be
putting the average Joe in a mindset to say "do what you have to do, just save us thank you very much, on whatever terms needed so I can eat
tomorrow, and if I'm lucky, still have a rood over my head.

Terror. Terror.
I think people love doom and gloom and terror and being scared out of their wits.
Before, it came in classic movies. Now, its presented as "fact" not IF its going to happen, but WHEN.
This stuff sells. I watch them all the time.
So, what is the draw? Are we glutton for punishment?
