When new members register with ATS, a frequently asked question is:

"What is the purpose of that bar?"

Well we understand quickly that the more we post, the longer it becomes. It will take a member 4000 posts to fill this bar, it is a long haul but many have made it.

"Well how come I see so many colors?"

After some time with ATS, you may come across an Applause! These come from Staff Members or FSME (Forum Subject Matter Expert) and are to recognize exceptional work. Not every post is going to be worthy of an Applause, but as time passes you will run into a few. With every 10 Applauses you recieve, you will jump to the next level. Below are all of the bars you will go through.

Every member starts off at the initial stage and will progress through. A few members have actually broken the bar, and it is quite the honor to do so.

"But I seen a yellow bar before I think?

All Staff members have a Yellow post bar. Moderators, Super-Moderators & Administrators support a Yellow bar.

If any other members have anything to add, please do. Hopefully in the future when a new member registers, we can point them in the direction to find the information rather than re-writing the same information. This is a very common question, so in the future we can simply provide the link to this thread.

Good work Chissler. You always see members asking 'what on earth is the weird bar for?' Now all I have to do is link 'em up!

Ahh, the miracles of modern timesaving . . .

Bump

Just giving this bit of information a nudge to the top of the stack, as this seems to come up quite often.

Hm, so is Chissler correct or not.

I did some checking.

I am four levels up, yet I've only received 36 applauses (34 if counsilors
don't count), so that would'nt seem to make sense than.

maybe it goes to one on the very first applause?

I have 29 (councilors do count) I have been waiting for #30, to get to 4.

But yeah, the math doesn't seem to work out.

0-9 = 0
10-19 = 1
20-29 = 2
30-39 = 3

Unless it's like this...

0 = 0
1-10 = 1
11-20 = 2
21-30 = 3
31-40 = 4
41-50 = 5
51-60 = 6
61-70 = 7
71-80 = 8
81-90 = 9
91-100 = 10
101 = broken bar ?

Not sure how exactly it works in the first few, but after awhile it does increase in increments of 10.

I've read posts from Vagabond and others who have broken the bar, and it seems to be corroborated that 110 Applauses will break the bar. 11m.gif = 110 Applauses.

well I have 33 Applause so I don't know, I have a 3m.gif

Hmm...

Anyway I know that I have 29, and my bar is at 3.

I don't think I have deleted any applause u2u's I kept those specifically to keep count.

I could be mistaken though, and have deleted some.

One of the truly unsolved mysteries.

This is a good idea. I kind of wish I had thought of putting this info in a thread. I only have one thing to add about that Post Bar, ....
Uhmmm...If you hold your cursor over the Post Bar you can see just how many posts you have.

Oh, one more thing,

You have voted chissler for the Way Above Top Secret award. You have two more votes this month.

Except that this won't work with Firefox.

With Firefox, you have to put your mouse over the bar and right click.

Then select "Properties"

There is a line that says "Alternate text", that is the Post Count.

Take the URL address, and put it in image tags, which look like this
"[ img]url[ /img]", except without the spaces before the img and /img.

Also, it will have to fit ATS size limits.
