Some here think that is a clear audio?? Your ears need testing.
Why is there a pause "um" or something after the supposed word spacecraft?
That com is not clear. I am sure the ground coms supervisor would have asked for a repeat of the statement. Where is any ground com before or after the statement?
Such noisy audio would be easy to fake for internet quality, I believe.

I think the whole thing says more about those that want to believe than anything else. I would like to believe there are "alien spacecraft" out there. But I see no evidence yet.

People you should be a bit more sceptical, you keep on putting "evidence" up there with a total, unquestioning belief. The knockers out there will put up this stuff to disinfo or discredit your case. Dont be too quick to believe.

IMHO, I call Bravo Sierra on this one

Okay, I've listened to this several times and here's what he says **ahem**:

"Houston, we, this is Discovery, we still have the orbiter spacecraft, uh, under VFR."

He clearly says "orbiter" (or, mayhaps, "orbital"), not "alien". VFR stands for "visual flight rules".
space.about.com...

Why a shuttle would be piloted under VFR I don't know. But there ye have it.

im sorry but in the clip that Errorist has where he slowed it down and it repeated it, it does not sound like "orbiting"at all to me. im not going to say it sounds exactly like "alien" (like i mentioned before, frankly it sounds more like INDIAN to me. hehe) but it does not sound like "orbiting".

id tend to believe it was tampered with or there was some sort of glitch in the transmission.

i think most important then debate if it is "alien" or not it's we have sure the tape it's not altered/tempered, etc.
there are any tecnical way to know if this is original sound or not?
after we reach a possible comun sence that it is in fact a real and original tape...we then can go for the "alien" debate again
)

just a idea.

I agree on "orbiting spacecraft" with that little radio glitch in the middle. Would of course be much better if it is what is suggested here
) I believe they've seen a lot from out there...

Just like in a court of law, if there is enough information for reasonable doubt, then reasonable doubt is the only reason one needs not to believe.

If one raises enough reasonable doubt concerning anything, we can not accept it as an absolute.

It is ultimatley up to you, each person, to decide what was said.

That's what I heard, too (orbiter spacecraft.)

Let's suppose that (just for a second) they did see an alien spacecraft. They're not going to simply say "hey, there's the alien spacecraft" and then talk about other things and drop the topic. If it was a known craft, they would identify it (where it was from, etc) and ground control would confirm the transmission. They'd comment on its location and its movement.

If it was an unknown "alien spacecraft", they would tell Houston and Houston would start asking for details. Then they'd go into the trajectory and other information that would help Houston try to get a radar lock on it.

They wouldn't say "there's the alien spacecraft" like you'd say "there's a bird" and then go on.

well, thats implying that they had never seen it before. now it would make sense if it was a usual or known occurance. sort of like a WWII bomber being escorted by fighter planes.

Interesting. This version of the audio is not the version I had heard earlier. There are clearly some forgeries floating around on the net.

I'll have to listen to this one more closely, but this one is definitely not as clear as the one I had heard previously.

My apologies for claiming it was easy to follow the words.

Hoax or Real,
It is obvious that changes have now been made to this recording. It has changed from when I first listened to it, so this particular piece of data is now corrupted and should be discarded.

The point and issue is a dead one, but if you feel like beating this dead horse....

Enjoy.

I just came across this video, where it clearly sounds like alien spacecraft, it was too good to be true! haha

Here is a link with some info:

NASA Alien Encounter Confirmed

I searched for an actual Nasa clip, but I couldn't find one, is he really saying orbiter?

Didn't any of your searches find the originator's retraction, opining the transmission was a hoax on a ham radio band?

Here's Ratsch's retraction message (his current email address is
sts48@home.com):

Date: Thu, 14 Mar 1996 18:51:37 -0800
From: sts48@ix.netcom.com (Donald Ratsch)
Subject: Re: NASA WAV file
To: bdzeiler@students.wisc.edu (Brian Zeiler)

Brian, yes I have the full story on that. The details was carried on
the July 1989 issue of the MUFON Journal. Briefly I recorded some of
the radio broadcast via my audio scanner from the space shuttle
Discovery through WA3NAN, the club station of the Goddard Amateur Radio
Club at Greenbelt, Md, transmitting on 147.450 MHZ. It is a
retransmission from the NASA Select original. I heard what I thought
was one of the male astronauts saying, "Houston, Discovery, we still
have the alien spacecraft under observance". Well I was pretty excited
and got in touch with Walt Andrus of MUFON and Vince Dipietro (Mars
Face Fame) who is employed at Goddard Space Flight Center who I later
handed over the tape to have a voice print analysis performed to
compare the target voice to the astronauts' voices that were aboard
during that mission. The result of the analysis showed that a few
positive hits on Astronaut Bagian (the physician on board) but not
enough hits to say he was the one who said the target words. So the
results were inconclusive. Later a check showed there was no target
voice on the original NASA Select audio.

About a year after that, I was again monitoring the audio from another NASA
mission via my scanner and I heard that voice again, saying something similar
to the target voice a year earlier. However on this mission, all the
astronauts were different compared to the other one. This led me to conclude
that unfortunately, the target voice was a hoax probably from an amateur
radio operator. Jim Oberg emailed me some time ago and asked me about
that case and I told him what I just told you.

Hi Jim,

That "originator's retraction" has already been referred to a couple of times in this thread - e.g. at:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

All the best,

Isaac

Thanks, Isaac -- all the more reason to wonder why the recent poster acted as if he were completely unaware of it.

The bigger question remains -- how can current search engines be used to locate 'contrary opinions' to internet claims instead of links to repeated mindless echoing of them?

Hi Jim,

Well - due to the number of UFO websites containing a lot of dross - I personally I found it useful to customize a search engine so that it searched specified websites and allowed the user to limit the results to material within certain groups of those websites (e.g. skeptic websites only, discussion websites only, UFO UpDates list only, ATS Aliens & UFOs forum only etc).

I have found that tool quite a time saver albeit imperfect - but discussion of that tool is probably off topic for this thread.

(Incidentally, even more off-topic, I may send you a U2U about debris recovered in Canada in 1967 that may have a space connection).

All the best,

Isaac

Hi, yes, thanks for replying. I did re-read through everything and prior to when I posted I was doing google and youtube searches.

All I can catch in this thread is the alien space craft under observation, is from a radio broadcast. I'd like to see the actual NASA footage or transcript. I'm sorry if it was staring straight at me. I do believe he said orbiter, but I still am curious.

The only thing I could find was a quick time loop of him saying orbiter over and over again, but it would be great to see the real footage, because the youtube video I posted has footage. Where did they get the footage?

And yes, the ATS Search is not the greatest.... No advanced search option....
