Here is a great article revealing the reality of life in Castro's socialist promised land.

TWO years ago, I was given what quickly became an awful assignment. I was told to visit Cuba. Oh sure, like everybody I thought: dark rum, hot nights, fat cigars, the rumba.
The reality was very different. Cuba was wretched. Every day the photographer and I encountered distressing scenes of women, children and ageing Cubans living in terrible poverty.

Walking down the streets of Old Havana, we saw a very old, wrinkled woman sitting in the gutter. She was wearing a skirt with multicoloured petticoats. She had bright red lipstick and her two front teeth were missing. She was smiling a crooked smile and sucking on a long Cuban cigar.

The old woman - a grandmother, probably - was sitting there not because she was a happy little communist, as Fidel Castro would have it, not because she was thrilled with his socialist revolution, but because she was dirt-poor and hungry.

It is too bad that Cuba has became what it has. My father was in the navy and was there one month before Castro took over. He said that Cuba was a beautiful place and the people there were wounderful and that if he had to live anywhere in the world besides here, it would be Cuba.

Most people today say the same thing, if they only see the "tourist side" of any country they will only see that country as a paradise.

And I don't know on what world has lived the author of that article, she did not even knew that most Cubans are black...

The final part of the article looks like the real reason, publicity for a book by a Cuban-Australian, published by the same house that published her book "Only in New York: How I took Manhattan (with the kids)"...

I understand why America didn't get rid of Fidel for fear of the Russians and after them came the Clintons and then came Bush and he decided to just wait until the old man died. That can't happen sooner enough me thinks. Still once he's gone starting and supporting a peoples revolution over Raul would be difficult but necessary. Wouldn't want to wait another 47 years.
