Subject: Lennon's UFO Experience

September 20 Rebecca forwarded a message from PRNewswire concerning
'Encounters' feature on John Lennon's UFO experience.

The sighting occurred when he was with his personal secretary, May
Pang, in New York, at the time when he and Yoko Ono were separated.

Lennon refers to the experience on the cover of his album "Walls And
Bridges", which was released in 1974, saying that he saw a UFO on
August 23.

'Encounters' I haven't seen myself, but August 31 I found this
informative comment which was posted to the newsgroup
"rec.music.beatles". Sorry about the delay.

May Pang tells about this in her book, 'Loving John'. John wasn't out
with anyone--he and May were in their upper East side apartment when
John saw what he believe to be a UFO and called May over to the window
to see it, too. Supposedly, there were several reports that night of
the sighting. Who knows?

"Amaranth56" is absolutely right. The July '96 issue of the British UFO
magazine "Alien Encounters" tells May Pang's story in quotes presumably
taken from her book, unfortunately without referring to the source
(issue 9, p. 53):

"We had just ordered up some pizzas and since it was such a warm
evening, we decided to step out on the terrace," recalled Pang. "There
were no windows directly facing us from across the street, so John just
stepped outside with nothing on, in order to catch a cool breeze that
was coming in right off the East River. I remember I was just inside
the bedroom getting dressed when John started shouting for me to come
out on the terrace.

I yelled back that I would be right there but he kept screaming for me
to join him in that instant. As I walked out onto the terrace, my eye
caught this large, circular object coming towards us. It was shaped
like a flattened cone and on top was a large, brilliant red light, not
pulsating as on any of the aircraft we'd see heading for a landing at
Newark Airport.

When it came a little closer, we could make out a row or circle of
white lights that ran around the entire rim of the craft - these were
also flashing on and off. There were so many of these lights that it
was dazzling to the mind.

It was, I estimate, about the size of a Lear jet and it was so close
that if we had something to throw at it, we probably would have hit it
quite easily."

Eerily, the object passed by.

"We often had helicopters flying above us but this was as silent as the
night and about seventeen storeys above street level."

The object flew off but returned later, by which time she and Lennon
had set up a telescope through which they could view it in more detail.

"The light was so brilliant coming from the craft that no additional
details could be seen. We did take a couple of pictures but they turned
out overexposed."

They also rang a local newspaper to report the sighting and were told
at least seven other people had seen the UFO too.

"We even called the police, that's how excited we were, and they told
us to keep calm, that others had seen it too."

During what was left of the evening, John kept saying, "I can't believe
it... I can't believe it... I've seen a flying saucer!"

WTF?

the forum mod has a sticky saying NO MORE RIDICULE!!!

You both should get a warning for that .

No where in the report is '___' mentioned, and besides

Two people cannot "Group hallucinate" on '___' either thats IMPOSSIBLE.

Both of you need to just leave this forum with your crap talking and go make fun of yourselves. Its really sad.

You dont even discuss the topic intelligently you just poke fun at things, grow up kids.

The event could be true , it might not be.

But both of you are obviously convinced its not true, without even seeing evidence.

Talk about ignorance. Pfft..

It's just a little harmless humor about the witness of the sighting, not the sighting itself. It wasn't meant as ridicule, on my part at least and I'm pretty sure the other guy meant it the same way.

As sightings go, it's actually very interesting. A good description and there were other witnesses, so it's quite possibly true.

THATS why i think it could be real because lennon is not the only one who saw it. a few people did and they all saw the same thing!

I think John subconconsciously drew them to him. He had just had a massive success with Imagine, which to me is a statement about religion and dogma being a human construction and we are instead one consciousness. Electromagnetic charged particles, matter resonating at different vibrational frequencies. Take away that that energy and we have nothingness. No life. What a shock it will be for some to wake up one day and find out god isn't a gentle man in a beard, but simply the connection between and within us all, between everything.

Maybe they were hooking into John's expression of enlightenment somehow, attracted to the artistic and creative nature, with a fresh non-dogmatic outlook on reality.

There's been a major tv news story today about how John Lennon was tailed by the FBI.. and they make a huge point about his political activism and protesting Vietnam. This was correct of course, but what if this was partly a smokescreen for something more incredible - they were watching Lennon because they were aware of his experience with ET? MIB, even? Anyway, the FBI story can be read here.
