I think I speak for a lot when I say Huh?
And WTF?

How does certain people, "Conspiracy Theorist's" if you will, or those that believe in this stuff predicting the end of the world on a given day relate to the "Neo-Cons" or whoever else you’re trying to blame. The only ones involved with or fear mongering were those saying something bad was going to happen so I don’t get it… what’s up with that title? I’m seriously lost here.

I never heard the major media, the "Neo-Cons", the Gray’s the President or the Native Americans for that reason say we were going to be attacked on that day or that the world was going to end. But a lot of members here sure were. *Cough*.

Who exactly are these 'Doomsday Neo-Cons" you speak of in regards to Aug. 22 predictions? This broad painting of people gets things no where. As far as I had read, heard ect it was first some professors and academics who were stating the importance of Aug 22 in some Islamic circles, not politicians. Please feel free to post your assertions of course with some backing support.

Glad to see I'm not the only one curious to see who these "doomsday neo-cons" are. Seriously, who in the blinkin' blue blazes are they? Answer quickly, please...gotta start digging my new and improved anti-doomsday radiation-proof, with tinfoil insulation, and NWO-approved doorknockers bomb shelter.

Well, had you even bothered to read the link in the original post, the Doomsday Neocons in question are Bill Kristol and David Horowitz. Both are leading lights of the Neoconservative movement, both have been banging the war drum on Iran, and both were trying to make hay from the August 22nd speculations, originally put forth by Bernard Lewis in the WSJ:

Kristol:

“It’s an important symbolic day for jihadists. And I’m curious to see what happens on Tuesday. [Ahmadinejad] may just say no or he may do something a little more dramatic, launch a missile or something, to show that - Iranian defiance of what looks like an impotent West,”

Horowitz's Front Page Magazine:

“Will [Ahmadinejad] attempt to make good on these threats this year on the anniversary of the Miraj [August 22], illuminating the night sky over Jerusalem?"

Any further questions?

Yes of course, two journalists speculate about August 22nd and the "Neo-Cons are shamed again"? I guess the only two people beating the 22nd end of world fear mongering drums were those two geniuses huh?

Sorry, I don't read prisonplanet.com stuff too much.

Last I checked those people were Academics and paid Political Pundits, not people currently in our Government stating such things. As you correctly state they were commenting primarlily on an article by Prof. Lewis, a noted historian and expert in Middle east affairs. You have got to admit that some of the comments made and attributed to the President of Iran are a little worrisome.

Horowitz and Kristol are two of the founders of what we now call the Neoconservatives, not just some jokers from out of left field. These are very influential people (especially in Bush Administration circles), one edits the Weekly Standard, one Front Page Magazine.

Just to be clear, it is not William (Bill) Kristol of the Weekly Standard, but his father Irving Kristol who was the architect of neo-conservatism. Almost everyone here and elsewhere miss-use the term "Neo-conservative", especially when they call people like the president a "neo-con." (he may not be a conservative-proper, because that is impossible if you want to be elected these days... but he is most certainly not a neo-conservative.) It is true that many of the more public neo-cons are Bush supporters, but I can't recall any of them in particular touting August 22nd. Other than some people on the paranoid fringe, I can't remember anybody saying anything about the date other than the fact that it is when we expected Iran to reply to the UN on its uranium enrichment activities. (and no, I am not a prisonplanet reader.)

I urge those who like to use the term but don't really understand it (not saying you) to read "Memoirs of a Trotskyist" (by Irving Kristol) in I believe a 1977 issue of the New York Times (just run a search in the Historical New York Times database.) It is very good background on this topic (and only 2 or 3 pages in length.)

I am aware of their history and credentials. None the less, it was not them making the initial predictions of events on Aug. 22, they were commenting on things that were already being talked about by others, throughout various media outlets. They are not the originators of the Aug. 22nd "doomsday prophecies", nor were they the only ones talking about such things.

Sorry, I don't read prisonplanet.com stuff too much.

You should, it's worth reading, even if you don't agree. Hell I probably read more right-wing stuff than anything else - I'm by no means a rightwinger but "know thy enemy" as they say.

AlphaHumana,
You are correct about Irving Kristol, but Bill Kristol is probably more influential these days, what with Rupert Murdoch buying him a bully pulpit and all. He's also chairman if the infamous PNAC.

And Bush a neocon? I doubt he even knows what it means. But it's clear that they have been the major influence on his foriegn policy. As for August 22nd, well I just quoted two influential people on the right who were talking about it. I get the feeling a lot of the hysteria was generated by WND - they're good at that

Oh, sure the neo-cons have been a major influence on Bush's foreign policy. I mean, describing an ideology is ideological in itself, but if one were to describe neo-conservatism it would probably be something like "socialist (neo-conservatism was founded by a bunch of ex-communists for pete's sake!) domestic meets pro-business, somewhat hawkish foreign." In other words, kind of like a moderate party - contrary to what many people seem to think it is.

I just wanted to make a few notes. I don't read WND really - only here and there, and only occasionally read the Weekly Standard. To be honest, I never heard anything about August 22nd being Doomsday other than from the people on this forum - all I knew was that was when President Ahmeninejad (sic maybe, he's not worth looking up) was expected to send his atomic representative to reply to the UN.

edit: silly typo.

I don't know if there's a word to describe Jones' POV....

REPLY: That's simple: A Barking Moonbat! If one would check those who make such predictions on the forum, the large percentage are not neo-cons. (Neo-Con is a complement by the way).

In case you really dont know, go to www.prisonplanet.com

REPLY: There's about as much factual info there as moveon....

Bill Kristol and David Horowitz..... both of which have more grey matter than most here..... at least they admit when they are in error.

Kristol and Horowitz have gray matter for brains. If that is true, what color matter does the president have???

I think this tittle correctly explains the fact that those beating the war drums are all right winged looney tunes folks...Names? Pick one. It applies to all those religious fanatics on the right

What was supposed to happen on August 22nd? Was there another 'prophecy' of the end of the world or something?

Actually ... I have a thought on that. Many times ghosts don't know that they are dead. Who here can say that they are completely sure that they are alive right now? You may THINK you are alive ... but perhaps you 'forgot' about a trama that happened and your death. perhaps youa really a ghost and there are ghosthunters sitting in the room with you trying to talk to you right now ... but you can't see them because you are on a different plane ... a ghostly plane ... and you don't know it.

SPOOKY!
Ahhhhhhhhh halloween is coming!! And you could REALLY be a ghost for it!
