Iran attacks Romanian oil rig

Funny, Iran picks the 22nd to remove by force unarmed oil workers using gun Boats and attack Hellicopters.

A Gulf of Tonken or USS Liberty incidence maybe?

The rigs are in Irans territorial waters so I guess they can do what they want.

No mention of USN assets mentioned in either articles.

The timing of this action just seems a little fishy to me.

Iran 'attacks Romanian oil rig'

A Romanian oil company says one of its rigs stationed in the Gulf has come under fire from Iranian troops.

A spokesman for the firm GSP said Iranian troops had seized the rig after firing from a nearby ship, and GSP lost contact with its 26 workers there.

Eugen Chira, the political consul at the Romanian Embassy in Tehran, confirmed the incident, but provided few details. "Some forces opened fire. That an incident has happened is true. We have no details or the reason yet," he said.

They might have a right to board a rig in their waters, but not fire on it. And they've lost contact with the workers. Are they all dead?

Why do you need gunships and naval warships to fire on it before boarding?

now that is not a very nice civilised thing to do!!

One minute yor working on a rig and the next minute you have incoming rounds splatting all over the deck...very charming indeed. As for it being part of a bigger dispute with europe as a whole, who knows, but is it possibly another jab at europeans and their oil supplies??


Iran is not looking very stable at the minute if this is how it boards a companies assests - even if it is in their waters, theres no call for killing people.
