5 civilians kidnapped by Israel were released today to UN officials. These men were said to be Hibzollah operatives that were taken from a Hospital raid in early August.

If you remember PM Olmert in his arrogance had made claims that major Hizbollah members had been captured, when in fact Hizbollah had denied the claim and said they had taken 5 civilians. I guess Hizbollah was right and Israel lied as usual. 16 other innocent Lebanese civilians had been killed in this raid by Israeli IDF murderers. They tried to claim it was a Hizbollah base. You can now imagine how many times in the news that you hear about Palestinians being killed in houses said to be terrorist bases, if they were in fact bases or more Israeli paranoia.

The whole raid was nothing more then an assault on a civilian hospital.

Report: Israel returns five men taken in commando raid on Baalbek

By The Associated Press

BEIRUT, Lebanon - Israel on Monday handed over to UN peacekeepers five Lebanese men who were captured during an Israel Defense Forces commando raid late on August 1 on the Hezbollah stronghold of Baalbek, according to a peacekeeping official.

At least 16 Lebanese were killed in the commando operation against what authorities in the Bekaa Valley city said was in Iranian-built hospital.

Israel said the building was a Hezbollah base and claimed it captured five Hezbollah fighters and killed 10 guerrillas.

Absolutely not, if they were really Hizbollah they would be still in custody, you are 100% correct. Olmert had said when they were first taken that they were to be used as bargaining chips. This was absolutely just an attack on a civilian hospital and proved that Israel will lie just to cover themselves. Still took them 3 weeks to realize that the Hassan Nasrallah they had was just a 60 year old grocery store owner with his family and neighbors they kidnapped. Lets see what types of torture this guy had to go through. This should tell us about how these people operate.

The Civilians who were thought to be POW's, were kept on a bus for 4 days. 2 of the "POW's" were about 70 or 80 years old and forced to wear chains. This is just absolutely appalling.

I can see that the IDF reservists who felt betrayed by their government are now releasing information to incriminate them. Had things gone their way this information would have never come to light.

Five Lebanese citizens, including two elderly men, were imprisoned for four days in a bus, reserve soldiers serving in the Military Police told Haaretz Monday.

The reservists said that arguments in the Israel Defense Forces prevented putting the prisoners in a POW compound. The prisoners were released when it transpired that they were not associated with Hezbollah.

When a war starts, army regulations require setting up a prison facility for POWs in 24 hours, and one was set up in a military camp in the north. Some 15 days after the fighting began, the IDF started sending prisoners it captured in Lebanon back to Israel.

The MP soldiers asked to intern the POWs in the prison facility that had been set up for this purpose, but senior officers refused to open it. "They feared the temporary facility would become permanent and be a burden after the reserve soldiers are discharged," a military source said.

The idea to set up a POW facility in tents on civilian territory was ruled out, for fear of media attention, and the soldiers and POWs were forced to sit together in a bus that was placed on a truck chassis for four days and nights.

"Two of them were 70 or 80 years old, it was very difficult for them because they had to climb in and out of the bus with chains on their legs. It would be hard to describe it as humanitarian treatment," one soldier said.

The bus was filled with equipment, leaving little room for the POWs and the heat in it was unbearable. The soldiers said some 20 POWs were sent to them, most of whom were released after questioning.

A small number of POWs was sent to prisons in the central region for the continuation of their interrogation.
