UFO scares Bush and Cheney into Underground

An unidentified flying object caught on radar caused a stir making everyone at the White House uneasy, here`s the article from the Washington Post. This happenned last year.

That is ridiculous !
Radar only bounces off metal objects ? How could it have been picked up on radar ?
It was probably some nut with a home made helicopter flying around.

While I don't buy their official cover story, it is true that sensitive radar can pick up cloud droplets and birds through reflection and reflected refraction, and so forth. The kind of radar they use to protect the Whitehouse is at the very least radial doppler, so it should have been returning a velocity signal. If that velocity were stable enough to suggest it was not a reflection anomaly, then the question was, what was it?

Why did this radar pick up an objective signal? I don't think we will ever know. Even if the cause was benign, they don't want to give away the weaknesses of the system. That has to be 100% classified.

They would make up a cover story in order to protect whatever the weakness to the system is.

We have to remember that radar systems are not flawless.
There were many close calls in the 80's with the nuclear standoffs that were either flocks of geese or commercial aircraft. This could have been any number of things.

Upon reading the report in the link I found it says "Yesterday's scare was the first known incident to send the president to the White House underground bunker sinc the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001." But wasn't the President in a primary school when he heard this and stayed there for a while, at least until everything had stopped, so why would he have gone to a bunker unless he was running from the public. In my opinian this was probably a bogus report...

Why did it take a year for this story to come out?

It was on some news media outlets when it happened, i think.

I remember seeing the president and staff evacuating, but the story they had then was a helicopter, i think.

I pasted that quote directly from the report so I'm not sure what to think.

If I recall correctly, the president's location was changed many time in the hours and days following the event of 9/11. I was much more preoccupied with explaining to my girlfriend that the smoke was very toxic and to ignore the governments safety statements.

If I recall correctly, the president was put on an airplane, after leaving the classroom, and was flown at high altitude with fighter escort for a while. Then plans were made for a secret location separate from Cheney.

I'm not sure we would ever get the straight scoop about where the president was, again, because that needs to remain classified for security reasons.

Not really a lot to work with here, unfortunately. But it is interesting that the radar system thought it had picked up an objective signal.
