In the face of growing concern over Iran's nuclear program, Tehran openly showed it's teeth today test firing ten medium range missiles. As the Islamic Republic dismissed the setting of preconditions for further talks on uranium-enrichment.

Days before a U.N. deadline to accept limits on its nuclear program or face possible sanctions, Iran's armed forces tested surface-to-surface missiles Sunday in the second stage of war games near its border with Iraq.

The war games occurred as Iran again rejected any preconditions for further talks on giving up its uranium-enrichment program, which it says is meant for peaceful purposes.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran believes setting preconditions for negotiations will tighten the atmosphere for the two sides to reach a solution," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters, according to the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

With the August 22 date approaching, speculation over Tehran's response to an incentives package has swirled into a number of different theories as to what their response will actually be.

One report in particular calling the response from Iran on the 22nd a "multifaceted response" gives cause for some concern as to what this could mean.

Iran's army commander, General Ataollah Salehi said Saturday his country must be ready for possible attacks by what he called Iran's "crazy" enemy. It was not clear whether he was referring to Israel or the U.S. or maybe both.

Another article stated this........

TextIran said it launched the new military exercises on Saturday to introduce a new defensive doctrine.

I wonder what kind of new doctrine they might be refering too? perhaps a nuclear one? This is shaping up to be one hot summer in more ways than one.

I might be a little behind in the issue, but isn't Iran months away from making Weapons-grade plutonium?

Thats cool. I like watching missle launches and military excercises, they are neat. What else have I got since the War on Terror took away our Air shows

I want to see some of their tank blasting away and perhaps a few of their UAV's in action? I mean hell the Pentagon is not letting us see their stuff in action here at home anymore.

I wanna go to a military excercise and watch!!! Particularly an airshow.

Maybe or maybe not. UN is now in the "can't look, don't know" mode. Guess they better call up the Bush psychic hotline to find out.

Iran Denies Inspectors Access to Site
Iran has turned away U.N. inspectors wanting to examine its underground nuclear site in an apparent violation of the Nonproliferation Treaty, diplomats and U.N. officials said Monday.

Any denying of UN Weapons inspectors to any site is immediate grounds for suspicion in my book. I've been a worried about Iran ever since this whole mess started in 2005.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is absolutely psychotic.

Granted, many world leaders are insane, but Ahmadinejad brings it to a new level.

A nuclear strike would cause the current situation in the Middle East to fall apart beyond hope for diplomacy or any civil means of stopping future violence. Iran's clear defiance of the west and neighboring countries are not painting a pretty picture for the future.

Iran won't let UN inspectors into any of its sites at this time especially underground site.

America has previously installed spies into IAEA teams and they did this in Iraq.

If Iran lets spies whoops i mean IAEA into it's sites they probably will be mapping out positions to target in the future and will be collecting data.

Rock and a hard place. On one side it's wait and see if Ahmadinejad acts, and on the other side is a pre-emptive US strike. Either way oil market goes to crap and we all get stuck with skyrocketing prices in a global recession.

Looks like a room full of atomic mousetraps just waiting for someone to drop a pingpong ball.

Kaboom, boom, boom, boom....

I'll just throw this out there...

Are we being told the truth or a pack of lies??? To keep the terror high?

Just asking.

So, Ahmadinejad has not laid out any demands other than the claim that the Islamic State of Iran is developing Nuclear energy for power.

Why would one need Nuclear power if they're sitting on one of the world's largest oil reserves?

Why not? He can sell sweet crude for mucho dollars as world demand increases and prices rise, while generating nuke power for 4 cents/kilowatt. Plus he wants the bomb, which lessens the risk of an invasion.

Theoretically then, Iran has a pretty smart plan for becoming a major islamic power in the middle east, even moreso than it already is.

Efficient powering of factories, a nuclear bomb, sufficient delivery/payload options, all the while controlling a major oil reserve.

Rock and a hard place indeed.

I just pray that we won't have to worry about World War 3 for at least the remainder of the year, but, knowing my luck..

Fog of war is mainly lies and propaganda, In the end game it doesn't matter who lied because to the victor goes the spoils, might brings right, winner writes the history and all that rot. That is, if we don't toast everything to a cinder. So welcome to our nutty planet that's stuck in a self-destructive mind loop paradigm.

High levels of dripping sarcasm is usually cause I haven't had my coffee yet ....

Even though Iran i think is the second largest oil supplier in OPEC it has one of the smallest overall quantity of oil reserves and supplies in the OPEC group which means it will basically run out of oil within 70-120 years it will have no oil left.

The Iranians have been planning for that day since the 1970's. Even the Shah tried to introduce nuclear technology into the country for nuclear power.

Also oil makes up something like 60%? i think of Irans domestic hard-cash income so every drop they burn they are basically buring hard cash. Iran has one o fthe worlds largest uranium supplies in the mountain regions which if mined will provide enough enrcihed uranium to power Iran for hundreds of years and maybe even thousands of years.

Iran has to have nuclear power otherwise it is going to be facing serious problems within the next 100ish years when it cant afford to burn oil for power or has no oil left to burn.

I want to see them fire more missles. Missles are cool. Why can't we release footage of our own missles? I want to see missles, being test launched of course not in an attack.

Yes indeed converting to nuclear options will open up quite a large amount of extra revenue for them.
Remember please, Kim got rid of all IAEA monitoring stuff, openly declared he had the weapons, even stated many times Japan will burn in a sea of fire and America will suffer a nuclear holocaust. even talking about sanctions being an act of war and whatnot. What happened? We slapped him with sanctions, and he did not fire a shot. Why oh why would you believe Iran's leaders would be different and start the war? They have even more to lose than NK does. Not going to happen, those who pretty much wish it so volunteer your own children and yourselves to fight the fight that yall will be starting, not Iran.

What you stated of Kim having nothing to lose is good evidence of him being more of a threat in the long run than Iran. Iran has alot to lose, it's a developing superpower in the middle east, and dosen't need to see all of it fall apart.

North Korea is run by a psychotic dictator with nothing to lose.

I wouldnt say that Kim has nothing to lose, I heard Ben Stien on Fox say that Kim Jong Ill has the worlds largest collection of pornography, Some would say that is something to lose

But other than that he has nothing to lose......He really IS a total psyhcopath, all that sex has warped his mind.

My point was more that these guys are not going to do nothing. They just want to be left to do what they do without being harrassed and taunted by expansionist civilizations and governments.

maybe they want more than to just be left alone, maybe they want the destruction of the great satan( the U.S. ) and the little satan( Israel ).

Public Service Announcement: The Register regrets to report that the world is about to end. It seems that Iran is going to attack Israel tomorrow, 22 August, with nuclear weapons, and initiate World War III, as famous Islamic scholar Bernard Lewis explains in his recent Wall Street Journal editorial.

I hope this guy is wrong but something tells me he is serious
