Ok, after seeing the great amount of creativity put forth ih the other
design threads I.E ATS-X, Attack Helicopter etc. I thought it would be
interesting to create one for the design of an Interplanetary (that is
movement in the Solar System only) craft.

So here are the peramiters.

-It must use either existing technology and/or technology plausably
creatable by the beginning of the 22nd century.
-It can-t have FTL drives, even if it is plausable.
-It must be able to carry up to 10 passengers and related cargo.

So, with those peramiters stated, that's about all I need to say for now.

Oh, and I will be participating, I just have'nt got a design to add to this
initial post.

Hey there again iori komei

No doubt you remember the 'design a mission to Mars' comp that was on here a while back?

There were some good designes there.

Ship: thread. Looks really good. Nice and practical.

Another two images:

Entire mission explained here:thread. But I think it only carried 6 people, which isn't all that great. (ps read at the bottom about the engines. They are awesome)

Nope, I did'nt see that thread, I was'nt on ATS from March to the
first half of July, was taking a break from things.

There's a difference between this thread and that one, that one
was to go to Mars, this one is to design a ship in general that travels
the solar system, and is completely reusable, sorta like a jetliner
is on Earth.

Thanks for bringing that thread to my attention though, it is interesting.

Those nuclear rocket engines only require a very small amount of fuel in comparison to chemical rockets. They can go great distances at great speeds, which is what you would want if you were to lurk around our solar system. I believe we need to develop them more.

My idea could work for interplanetary travel as well. I envisioned my design to be rather modular and scalable as well. I'd love to actually create some visuals for it. Model it in 3d or something and just put more work into the concept. I don't think I wrote out my idea in enough detail.

It can be found here: www.abovetopsecret.com...

Ok, well my computer is loading sorta slow now, so I can't look at
all the links both of you provided, but I will tomorrow,
in case theres something I should see.

I've finished my design, and since it looks prety much the same
on all sides, I made only a side view.

The XE-1 is a large Interplanetary transport ship.

A. It's main propulsion source are two Dilitheum/Tritium fusion
rocket engines.
B. The large sphere in the rear of the ship houses the engines
and fusion power plants that provide the power for them and the ship
as a whole.
C. The main fuselage of the ship contains many things,
namely the fiber optic communication system, power distribution cables
and zero gravity R&D chambers.
D. The main living ring is where the living area is.
The ring is comprised of 6 decks on the inside and is protected by a
hull made steel, lead and carbon composites, with an outer layer of three
inches of perfect lattice diamond. It is spun to provide .6 gravity.
E. The command ring is a smaller ring spun to provide .8 gravity.
It is the ships main command center.
F. The impact shield is comprised of a four feet of perfect lattice
diamond and five feet of steel with carbon nanotubes interlaced.
It also houses an Electro-Magneticfield generator that helps by deflecting
70% of material out of the ships way within a two mile range in front of
the ship.
G. The maneuvering engines can turret 190º.
They are used to reduce the ships cruise speed by 30% and to flip the
ship around for deceleration.
H. There are four sets of escape shuttle-pod strips, each containing
six escape shuttle-pods that can carry twenty-five individuals each.
I. There are 8 seperate weapons clusters, four in the impact shield
spaced randomly, and four on the main living room spaced equally around
the ring.

The ship uses a quantum Super-Computer to provide for the complex
calculations required for the course plotting and acceleration and
deacceleration maneuvers.
The ship can hold a maximum of 100 crew members and 600 passengers.
The ship is armed with Magnetic Acceleration Guns (Railguns),
point defense lasers and blaster missiles.

Ok, so that's my submission.

I'm interested to se what everyone can up with as well.

Oh and jra, modularability is a good idea.
