Update
I believe Hamas (Sunni typs) kidnaped an IDF soldier on June 23. This was in response to a IDF attack at the beach of Gaza in which several people were killed and the Palestinians got the usual Israel response: Oops.

We learned - thanks FOX - that Israel was holding 7,000 Palestinians, many who have never been charged with a crime. Reminds one of Guantanamo Bay. The Hamas people offered to exchange the IDF soldier for the prisoners, but got the usual Israel response: We don’t talk to terrorists.

I believe it was on July 12 when Hezbollah (Shia in Lebanon types) attacked an IDF outpost, killed 3 IDF soldiers and captured 2 IDF soldiers. Kidnaped say the Israeli government. Israel launched a 34 days long rampage on Lebanon, killing more than 700 Lebanese civilians and destroying $10 billion worth of houses, buildings, roads, bridges and agricultural crops in the field. Maybe the IDF thought the Hezbollah were hiding in the wheat fields? All of this done supposedly to get the return of the 2 IDF soldiers. How can they find the soldiers under 10,000,000 tons of rubble?

Now there is a truce under the aegis of he UN. Our president says “the IDF kicked butt on the Hezbollah which serves them right because they started it.” Israeli PM Olmert apologized to the Knesset for screwing up the operation. It is doubtful if he can finish out this year in office. Maybe he ought to come to Washington where we use rose colored glasses? And George Orwell writes our scripts.

So, what happened to the 3 soldiers? Are they alive or dead. Why can’t the Mossad find them? Are they looking? What’s the deal here? Where do you think they are being kept? In Syria or in Iran? Hmm?

And yet another tragic misadventure in Lebanon. See

In reality Israel has nearly always "Talked" to "Terrorists" about the exchange of prisoners.

One former Israeli military commadenr commented on TV that it was an unwritten policy, even when the soldiers were know to have been killed.

"Over the last 30 years, Israel has released about 7,000 prisoners to secure freedom for 19 Israelis and to retrieve the bodies of eight others. A number of diplomatic efforts have been made to secure the release of Israeli IDF personnel following their capture by enemy forces."

We all know why they did not this time, a pretext for the US for war with Iran.
